The potential for beef cattle in Indonesia is still extraordinary, and the domestic market share is very open, but why has this potential not been able to revive the world of animal husbandry in Indonesia? This is because beef cattle farming is still managed traditionally, the quality of the livestock is poor and maintenance management is rudimentary so it is not surprising that the cattle being raised have very low daily weight gain.

Apart from that, the scale of ownership is around 2 – 3 birds/household, this condition is clearly very detrimental to the breeders themselves because they do not get satisfactory results. It is still difficult to develop cattle, or to survive requires a lot of effort, so breeders prefer to sell their cattle to other businesses that quickly make money, for example buying motorbikes on credit and changing professions to become motorbike taxis.

The prospects for the beef cattle breeding business have great opportunities, this can be seen from the level of beef consumption of the Indonesian people which continues to increase every year, due to the increase in population, income and increasing public knowledge of the importance of nutrition.

However, when compared with people in the Southeast Asia region, Indonesia's level of consumption of beef is still very low. The projected consumption of beef and buffalo in 2020 will increase by 3.91% from 2019, namely from 2.56 kg/consumption/year to 2.66 kg/consumption/year (Susenas BPS).

However, the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020, which has been ongoing until now, has seen a decrease in beef and buffalo meat consumption due to people's low purchasing power and many layoffs.
