Forest goat (Capra aegagrus) is a species of lying goat that is distributed in West Asia and South Asia. This goat is the ancestor of domestic goats which are often kept by humans. Forest goats have stocky, bushy bodies, especially in winter, and curved and sharp horns in males.

The color of the fur varies, but is generally grayish brown or blackish. Forest goats are herbivorous animals that live in rocky areas, mountains and dense forests. They use rocky terrain to hide from natural predators, such as wolves or leopards.

This goat has excellent acrobatic abilities, able to jump and climb steep cliffs. Even though they are quite tough animals, the forest goat population is currently experiencing a decline due to illegal hunting and habitat loss due to deforestation.

In some places, forest goats are threatened with extinction and have become objects of protection in nature conservation. Conserving forest goats is very important to maintain ecosystem balance and biodiversity in mountainous and forest areas, as well as to prevent the extinction of this species.

Governments and conservation institutions in various countries are now increasingly active in efforts to protect this species.
