Wasps are insects belonging to the Vespidae family which are famous for their strong stings and ability to build complex nests. They belong to the order Hymenoptera, along with bees and ants. Wasps can be found in almost all parts of the world, except in polar regions and very cold areas.

Morphologically, wasps have slender bodies with varying colors depending on the species, ranging from black, yellow, to striped. They have transparent wings and long legs, which help them in finding food and interacting with the surrounding environment.

Wasps live in colonies consisting of workers, a queen, and sometimes male bees. Wasp colonies usually build their nests in protected places such as holes in the ground, cracks in walls, or even inside plants. Wasp nests are made from materials such as wax, saliva, and wood fibers collected by wasp workers.

Wasp workers are responsible for finding food, raising larvae, and defending the nest. They generally hunt small insects and nectar as their food source. The queen is the leader of the colony whose job is to lay eggs and regulate reproduction. At the end of summer, wasp colonies often produce male bees and queens who will start new colonies the following season.

The ecological role of wasps is very important in the ecosystem. They help in pollination of plants, which is important for fruit and grain production. Apart from that, wasps also play a role in controlling the population of other insects that may be pests to plants.

Although often considered pests or threats to humans because of their painful stings, wasps have an important place in the balance of nature.
