Always Late - Freewrite

Always late!! Always, always late.
It still gives me that slightly panicky feeling in my stomach when I realize that I am late.
I grew up in Germany where churches all over the place let you know throughout the day what time it is. There is one ring at 15 minutes after the hour, 2 rings at the middle - that sweet spot when you get to decide if it is 30 minutes after the last hour or 30 minutes before the next.
In German, we look forward - even at the 15 minutes past the hour. The way we say it we are looking forward to the next whole number.
Then there come three rings when we are only 15 minutes away from what the next full hour is holding for us.
When the full hour appears, we have a little concert. First there are four rings in the same tone as the call telling us about the fractions of the hour. Four. Ringing in and making us aware that the big announcement is coming up.
Pay attention. Know where you are in the day. Ring is not the right word to describe the beautiful full sound of a church bell. Each time the hammer rings, it makes this beautiful vibrant, vibrating sound that can be heard all over the town.
Four times the music hits your ears to get you ready for the big reveal = what hour is it going to be?
Then, the bigger, the deeper sounding bell is starting to ring. One time for every number of the hour. Now we know that it is one, or two, or three.
We always know. There never is an excuse for being late.

Was going to write:
About having kids and being on time more difficult
Having a husband who would start changing the oil in the care 5 minutes before we had to be somewhere
Giving up on feeling super terrible when late - but never really mastering that and still wanting to be on time, expecting people to be on time, and feeling bad when not - just a little bit deep down.
And as the bells came up instead - then I wanted to write about being in a Muslim country and hearing the call to prayer. Such a beautiful sound to measure the day…

Oh, the power of the freewrite - you just never know what is going to happen...
