Yeast

I rarely bake bread (not in 2021 perhaps in 2020?) so yeast is not on my shopping list.
Since I decided to make a rice pie I needed some. I used a bag of dry yeast and made the dough. That yeast was 2 years over the expiredate said my kid but I don't care. I'm not throwing away what can be used. The dough was good, the pie was which means it was eaten within two days (that's how it goes over here, baking, cooking and cleaning up takes more time than eating).

I'm not so fond of yeast because of the smell plus yeast doesn't do your health any good. Bread can be baked with bakingpowder too though. I have recipes but can't remember I ever tried it. I asdume it works since cake is bread too and much easier.

Once I tried to make oliebollen (oil bolls, dough balls deep fried) with beer (idea was to use the yeast in beer) that recipe didn't work out well. It smelled like beer, tasted like beer and beer isn't what you expect if you take an oliebol (or ten).

Disappointing (or let's say you have to get used to it) is what you bake yourself always looks and tastes different from what you buy. Your taste needs to change since homemade is without chemicals unless you use those packages from the factory which is what many bakers do too. They buy mixes of whatever they need, they buy cookies at a factory or other bakery and put it in their bags. Nothing homemade about that but it works. People pay a higher price for the illusion that baker baked it himself.

I have one old bag of yeast left and bought some new. No idea if or what I will use it but it's good to have something for in case of need. Not that I need bread because I don't eat it and pancakes are a cheaper option but you never know.

Once in a while I try a new recipe.
Yesterday I tried one out of the bakery book I have. Honestly saying this book is the worst. So far I didn't manage to bake one thing that didn't failed. So if you see this book don't buy it, it's a waste of money. Have a look at the internet and write in a notebook what works for you. I just bought myself a new one.

I rarely bake. For a while I made cake but I think it's not worth the time and price of gas. I got a lot of leftovers at work which is great. :)

Free food is always good. Enjoy it 💖🍀
