Dad lied

I waited and waited even woke up at night to have a look at the sky.
I never understood why Santa didn't visit our home.
Mom decorated a tree and baked cookies.
I remember I sneaked downstairs to put some on a plate for Santa together with my schoolmilk I saved for him.

How about Santa, I asked dad.

He put the newspapers down for a sec.
Santa is a big lie, he said, people made him up. Santa has nothing to do with God. No one ever saw or met him.

Santa is a lie, I murmeled but I could't help thinking he is not different from God. No one ever saw or met God except for crazy granny who was dangerous and in a home for sick people. Mom and dad didn't want me to visit her.

Lying is not good. That is what dad always told me. You are not allowed to lie but what about Santa?
Am I not sweet enough, a bad child, should I pray more?
Dad can be wrong and granny can be right or?

I decided to wait and find out the truth about Santa. The entire night I watched the sky and didn't't notice my feet getting cold. I wasn't tired all I wanted is to see Santa.

It's fine if you do not eat the cookies or drink my milk. I don't care about a present, I want to know if you exist.

I waited and saw how the sky turned grey, snow covered our garden and the street outside. I waited and waited while I watched the sky for a sign of Santa. Was there a man in the moon?

My eyes hurt and a tear fell on my cheek and there it was.
Santa, I cried, you are real, dad lied to me. Did dad steal my presents too?
