Anime Review- Ascendance of a Bookworm - Episode 08

For this episode, I watched it more than once.

Cause when I watched it for the first time, I was feeling all giddy and happy that at last they were successful in making paper but something irked me about it so I watched this episode again.

What I mean with being irked is when Lutz asked Maine,If she is Maine.

Maine told the truth and though I know her "come into existence" to their current world has a different case. Isn't that she doesn't need to be anybody else's Maine.I hate the idea of objectifying people

Let me tell you my disappointment one by one.

First, Lutz observed that Maine is not Maine but he was not able to discern her intentions in their world.They were together most of the time and yet he was not able to read between the line.If she is not Maine, why would she pick Maine's body? That right there will give you an idea that it was not by her liking that she became Maine. So all the unnecessary stuff he told Maine will only hurt her unnecessarily.

He did become suspiscious but he didnt try to understand.Empathy in action cannot harm.

Second It was suppose to be cheesy but I dont like objectifying people. I dont know if its because no one knows that Maine is not Maine and he has the privilege to know that Maine is indeed not Maine AND the good memories that he has with her is with the new not the old or is it just me not being romantic in the first place.

Third, Tho I know that one of the reason why she is still alive is because of him. I hate the thought of existing because of another person.Devotion is not a bad thing but knowing who or what we are putting our devotion needs to be checked also.

But all in all I think its just one of the hurdles that is needed to happen in friendships to make the bond stronger.Maine opened herself and became vulnerable, it is a brave thing to do.It is one of the challenges of having close relationship with others.On the other hand, Lutz is also far from being closed-off because he listened to Maine.And the conflict between them was resolved because the two parties did their part to solve it.
