How could it have been any different? Just when we finally want to treat ourselves to a little getaway and some time out, something is guaranteed to happen to spoil all the fun. Over the last months we haven't really been dancing through life carefree and without any trouble, in fact quite the opposite has been the case. The bad news were reaching us at an increasingly short interval and it seemed as if we were not missing a single faux pas, virus or disaster. Sometimes we managed to pull everything together at the same time, which of course was a real stress factor for us at home.

Nevertheless, I was quite optimistic that things would perhaps be a little easier and more relaxed by the end of the year. It was precisely for this reason that we had decided to take a short trip. But as was to be expected, we weren't sure until the last moment whether we would actually be able to leave home.

However, as I wrote a few days ago, we managed to go on tour after all and at first it seemed as if we had left the spell that had been cast on us at home. But just as we were about to lean back in gratitude, it had caught up with us again.

As usual, it usually hits the little one first, and that's how it was in this case too. The sudden night-time fever rose to over 40 degrees Celsius the next day and kept us all on our toes. At the end of the day, we were glad to be back home and at last have the little ones in bed. The following visit to the doctor proved that the flu has finally reached us as well. My work plans for this week were, and still are, on the brink of collapse and I worry every morning about how the new day will turn out.

Unfortunately, the flu doesn't stop at one person and has now caught the next of us, and it's only a matter of time before one of us adults has to deal with it too. I'm still trying to convince myself that I can sit it out and avoid it. Maybe this time a little optimism will help to ward it off, at least for me. I can't afford any more downtime, and I simply don't feel like it either.

And that's exactly why I'm simply refusing to get sick and putting up a big stop sign. I want to go through the rest of the year exactly as I planned. And no stupid flu can stop me!
