Public gas stations are places where vehicle owners refuel for their vehicles. They can also not take their vehicle to a public gas station by bringing a closed container to refuel it. It's just that if you bring the closed container, the buyers cannot return the subsidized fuel which is usually sold by Pertamina.
Public fuel filling stations themselves have several brands including Pertamina, Petronas, Shell and Total. However, what is generally found in Indonesia is Pertamina, especially in areas outside the city, while other brands are more focused in urban areas. This can happen because Pertamina itself is a brand of state-owned oil producers or better known as state-owned enterprises.
Pertamina is generally owned by the state. However, for the business of public fueling stations, Pertamina provides freedom where each public fueling station can be managed by the owners of the filling station, but still must follow the regulations that have been determined by Pertamina as the main body of the business.
Pertamina as a state-owned company has an obligation to distribute subsidized fuel throughout Indonesia. Pertamina carries out its obligation to distribute this subsidized fuel by distributing it through Pertamina's public refueling stations throughout Indonesia. Subsidized fuel which is distributed to public refueling stations is monitored by the government because it is feared that if there is no supervision of this subsidized fuel, misuse of the subsidized fuel may occur.
Public refueling stations have several public facilities. The general facilities available are toilets, prayer rooms, ATM and places for filling wind and water. However, at some of the larger public gas stations, apart from the facilities I mentioned earlier, other facilities have been added, such as a grocery shop and a coffee shop. This is because public gas stations are usually also a place to rest for a while when traveling long distances.
