Why do younger football fans pretend like they watched 20th century players?

The title pretty much sums it up. Statistically most people on Reddit or Twitter are either teenagers or people in their 20s, which means none of them watched the likes of Baresi, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Pele or Maradona. Yet all I see online is people comparing them to 21st century players & when most of these guys probably just watched a few compilations on YouTube.

I’ve seen a guy on Twitter who couldn’t have been older than 20 say Sergio Ramos isn’t in the top 10 defenders of all time & proceeded to list players from the 60s. It just comes across cringe & pretentious. Is it so hard to just admit that you can only talk about players you’ve watched live for years?
