Starting with greetings and respect, I'm @jebanikajeba, From Bangladesh. Today I'm sharing the health benefits, cultivation, Nutrition facts, and cooking types of Kohlrabi.
All the six seasons of our year in Bangladesh have some distinct characteristics and especially in winter, the market is flooded with all kinds of fresh vegetables. People depend more on eating vegetables during winter than other seasons. Kohlrabi is one of the light green vegetables among other winter vegetables that are packed with health benefits.
Kohlrabi is cultivated and consumed in European countries and South Asian countries. Kohlrabi cultivation is less expensive and profitable than others. Two types of kohlrabi are commonly found in the market, one green and the other purple. Kohlrabi requires cold weather for its cultivation, so winter is the best time for its cultivation. Fertile loam and well drained upland or medium upland clay soils are best for growing kohlrabi.
Kohlrabi seedlings are produced in seed beds and planted in rows in the soil and the size of the seed beds should be 1 meter wide and 3 meters long. Cultivation of Kohlrabi requires a lot of water and requires constant weeding of the land until the Kohlrabi grows.
The seeds are sown from Bhadra to Kartik month and within two months, Kohlrabi grows and is ready for consumption. Hybrid Kohlrabi seeds are available from various companies, but for small-scale home cultivation, seedlings can be purchased from nurseries and transplanted with less effort. I have also cultivated Kohlrabi in my house.
Strong vitamin C antioxidants like kohlrabi contribute to the skin's ability to produce collagen and maintain its lustrous, smooth texture. Kohlrabi contains calcium which strengthens teeth and bones and helps in building structure.
Kohlrabi contains iron which helps prevent anaemia. Kohlrabi contains fibre that improves Digestion. Besides, Kohlrabi has some other nutritional properties which help prevent cancer and reduce weight. However, those with allergies and uric acid problems should exercise caution in consuming Kohlrabi.
Various delicious recipes can be cooked and eaten with Kohlrabi. Few people don't like to eat Kohlrabi but many people like it.
