Soon after he left college, young Thomas Webb leaves home to his own apartment where he befriends an alcoholic neighbour (Jeff Bridges) who seemed to be a wise man and later became his confidant. Soon after, he finds out that his father Ethan Webb(Pierce Brosnan) was having an affair with a beautiful and alluring woman called Johanna(Kate Beckinsale). Bent on breaking the relationship, he confronted her about it, only to end up sleeping with her.
What follows is a complex tangle of emotions as relationships undergo transformations and a big family secret that would change everything he thinks he knows about his family bubbles up to the surface.
