Escape Room 2: boost tension over coherence, in a sequel that won't disappoint fans of the first installment

I do not think I am wrong in stating that 'Escape Room 2' is more of the same, choosing to follow the path that bigger is better when it comes to raising the different tests that the protagonists have to face. It is true that they take a little longer to arrive due to the need to find a way to justify that the two protagonists of the first installment are once again involved in a new installment of the deadly game.

For this reason, the script by Will Honley, Maria Melnik, Daniel Tuch and Oren Uziel focuses from the beginning of the game in that the intensity never decreases, always seeking to keep the adrenaline of the spectator at high levels so that we do not stop to think in nothing more than seeing how the characters pass the different tests not with little difficulty.

For his part, the director Robitel, who already took care of the staging of the first installment, is aware of what most interested the public, so he also focuses on enhancing that intensity that he mentioned before in order to find the authentic raison d'etre of 'Escape Room 2': hook those who enjoyed the first installment.

For this there are elements that work better such as having a leading couple (Taylor Russell, Logan Miller) that the public already knows. That takes away from you on the one hand - you are clear that none of them are going to be among the first to die, and that if there is any real possibility that one of them ends up falling down the road and gives you another, they are no longer random characters those who face a dangerous situation, but the positive ends up prevailing, since at least it has something to hold on to emotionally.

For the rest, it is noticeable that the scriptwriters have taken their time when it comes to meditating on the traps they have to face, raising their level of danger to try to give the least possible respite to both their characters and the viewer. Too bad it doesn't take advantage of the fact that players have been champions in previous editions of this deadly game when out there they might have found an exhilarating distinctive trait.

In return, what 'Escape Room 2' proposes in the purely plot flirts with the absurd on more than one occasion, being better the option of letting yourself be carried away to have a more or less entertaining time than the possibility of trying to reflect a little on the mythology that proposes and develops. In fact, the less we stop to think, the better for the film, because sense cannot be said to have much.
