The series revolves around the parents of Jay Pritchett and her children, Claire Dunphy and Mitchell Pritchett, and tells the story of these three interrelated families. The family's father, Jay Pritchett (Ed O’Neill) is married to a young woman, Gloria (Sofia Vergara), and her child, Manny (Rico Rodriguez), is from Gloria's first marriage. Claire (Julie Bowen), a housewife, is married to the real estate agency and, in her own words, Phil (Ty Burrell), the cool father. According to the series interpretation site named Metacritic, 87 points out of 100 were given to the first season of the series. With this scoring, the series has left behind the TV shows such as How I Met Your Mother in the comedy category with 69 points from Metacritic and The Big Bang Theory with 57 points and 30 Rock with 67 points. "The funniest family comedy of the new year" was used for the series in the criticism in Time magazine.
