Story at school: "An encounter with my supervisor"

Normally, every student in a higher institution must write a project that he or she must defend before graduating. On the 14th of November 2024, I was assigned a supervisor, and during that period, we were on holiday. Fast forward to the 25th of November, we resumed school, but I couldn't resume that time because I was working, and that period is usually our season as a hairstylist, and of course, I won't go back to school empty-handed. Based on the updates I was getting from my coursemates who were already in school, they were not doing much in school then. I decided to resume by January because we still have Christmas break before the final resumption, which is on 6th January.

When I resumed, I went straight to my supervisor's office. On getting there, I introduced myself to him but to my greatest surprise, he shouted at me and told me to leave his office. I went home that day wondering what could be my offense. When I went there again, he asked me why I didn't come to see him last year, that maybe because I didn't want to follow others to contribute for his birthday gift and for that reason I should leave his office until he decide on the type of punishment to give me.

To be honest, I felt like crying at that moment. I went out and stood outside his office under the hot sun from 12 to 3pm. Later, he called me in and told me to go and come back next week.

On the day he told me to come, as I entered this man's office, he shouted at me and told me that I had the guts to report him to my mother to the extent of my mother calling him on the phone to ask stupid questions. I told him that if someone called him, it wasn't my mother because I don't even have his number, so how would my mother call him? Besides, I am not even staying with my mother, and for the third time, he walked me out, of his office. On my way home, I was lost in thought of how I am going to start this project and finish it with this man and his attitude. At that moment, the only idea that came to me was to switch to another supervisor.

The upper week, I didn't bother going to him again rather I went to my HOD's office to pick a reassignment form so that they could change the supervisor for me. One thing about the form is that you must have a tangible reason for switching and your previous supervisor must also approve it before you can be reassigned. I summoned the courage and fill the form, my reason was that my previous supervisor dealt with only communication topics while I wanted to do linguistics-related topics since I am studying Linguistics and Communication.

Luckily for me, the HOD signed the form and told me to give it to my previous supervisor for him to sign. When I got to his office and he saw the form, he was shocked and angry at the same time. Maybe he was not expecting such a thing because I saw the disappointment in his face but he couldn't do anything else other than sign the form because he truly supervises only communication students. After everything, he signed the form I was given a new supervisor and today, I have successfully submitted chapter one of my projects.
