Student Building Strategies (PART 1) || Student's and teacher's bonding

As a teacher, you don't just teach, but you observe, study and guide your students. Getting to provide a good result by studying and analysing your students, you must establish a relationship between you and your students that will enable them to relax, open up and be candid with you. This is necessary because some students live under tension, fear or in pretence when they don't have a good relationship with their teachers. As a teacher, establish a good student/teacher relationship to obtain an optimum result with your students.

As a teacher, I must understand my students' abilities, their abilities, strengths and weaknesses, learning styles and their backgrounds. It is through this understanding that a teacher will be able to deal with the students.

With the simple understanding, you'll be able to approach the students, understand how to handle the students' learning activities and be able to monitor the students' growth. With that understanding, it's possible for you to know the approach which you can use to handle such students at any moment.

That I do not differentiate between bad and good students does not mean I don't know them. I know both the good and the bad ones, but I have decided to give everyone the opportunity to thrive. I teach, advise where necessary and support them alike. This is to make the bad ones know that I love them and want them to change and also that the good ones will not notice the bad ones. This is because the bad ones may change some day, but if their colleagues know about their bad behaviour, it may become a tag on him in the future when he/she grows up.

By virtue of teaching them, I have a good relationship with my students and we do interact. I'm not sure if there has been a time I have failed to clarify any topic discussed with my students. I'm always prepared and whenever the students ask me any question, I don't have a proper answer for them. There's something I usually do. I used to tell them to go and research the question. That is to enable me to go back to personal research too, so that when next I return to teach, I will give a correct answer to the question.

Everyone makes mistakes, including the teacher. It depends on the kind of mistake. If it's the one that can be corrected, I'll call them to correct it immediately and if it can't be corrected, I'll inform them and let them know what would have been done, especially if it's an examination, especially when they have left the examination hall. Then, sometimes, I used to correct it myself if it had to do with misspelt words.

Being a teacher entails a lot if not everything, from the way you teach, relate and watch the students grow and making progress. God bless teachers.
