Hello dear steemian friends, it's great that we can continue the Steemit Learning Challenge (SLC) course in Season 22 Week 5, It could be the last week of learning in Season 22 and hopefully, we can go back to learning with other useful and fun material.
👨🏫 Introduction
In Week 6 we will focus on the grammatical object or direct object of the verb teach that is, students, this is important for a teacher to get to know their students with different characters. This can provide an overview of overcoming student problems so that the transfer of knowledge will be much easier to carry out so that the benefits in the learning process and student development can run well.
In general, teachers can recognize the character of student behavior by applying several methods, these methods include observing behavior, communicating, and conducting self-introduction programs. The functions of the three are as follows :
Observation of behavior.
Behavioral observation is used as a way to observe, analyze, and understand how students behave in an educational environment. This method prioritizes seeing them when interacting with classmates, as well as the surrounding environment.Conduct Communication.
Communication is used as a way to understand their views on their personality, their needs, difficulties, or expectations.Self-Introduction Program.
Perform examinations using psychological testing tools that suit your needs, one of which is a psychological test or Personality Inventory. Several sites make it easy to do this test and easily accessible on the internet, one example is www.16personalities.com. Although this examination has a level of results that are not necessarily accurate, but can be a reference in knowing a person's characteristics. Disadvantage of this tool, it is used only for a certain age.
Usually, after a teacher has observed behavior, communicated, and conducted a self-introduction program teachers know the character of students in general. Teachers already have information on the character of students by doing the method, and the identification that will be found will include various aspects including their abilities, interests, personality, and background. Here is an explanation of some characteristic categories of learners:
Cognitive Aspects
- Intellectual level: the learner's ability to understand, analyze, and solve problems.
Learning style: the way an individual learns, for example, visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. - Levels of cognitive development: related to the stages of development, according to Piaget's theory (sensory-motor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational).
Emotional Aspect
- Emotional stability: ability to manage emotions, both when facing challenges and in social relationships.
Learning motivation: the level of enthusiasm and internal or external drive to learn.
Interests and talents: an interest in a particular field that encourages further exploration.
Social Aspects
- Ability to interact: the ability to cooperate, communicate, and socialize with peers, teachers, and adults.
- Socio-cultural background: values, norms, and habits brought from the family environment or society.
Physical Aspect
- Physical development: height, weight, and motor skills (fine and gross).
- Physical health: health conditions that affect concentration and energy in learning.
Psychological Aspects
- Personality: characteristic of individuals such as introverts, extroverts, or ambiverts.
Self-concept: the perception of one's abilities and worth.
Psychological needs: such as the need for appreciation, security, and social acceptance.
Spiritual Aspects
- Moral and ethical values: understanding and applying the values of kindness in everyday life.
- Religiosity: level of awareness and practice of religious values.
Educational Background
- Previous educational experiences, both formal and informal, that affect the way learners learn.
Case in point: if a teacher has done a student's character recognition method, and finds the student lacking in the emotional aspect. Teachers can motivate using a level of enthusiasm and internal or external drive to learn to such students. By providing a spirit of curiosity about the material or a particular situation to students, and giving the student praise or appreciation when the desired expectations are achieved. This aims, so that deficiencies in the emotional aspects of these students, can be resolved in the learning process.
Knowing a student's character is not only about knowing their strengths and weaknesses, but also understanding how they (the student) think, feel, and interact. This helps create holistic learning (an approach that considers all aspects of a problem or situation) so that students feel supported to develop academically, emotionally, and socially.

- Teachers must be able to know their students because understanding the characteristics of students can provide many benefits for teachers and students. This will make it easier for you to improve student achievement.
- Teachers are expected to be able to distinguish each student's characteristics so that they can choose ways to improve and develop the student's shortcomings and advantages in the learning process.
