Greetings, dear friends it's the sixth week of the Steemit Learning Challenge for season 21, and I'm delighted to be part of this contest organized here by the brilliant teachers. This week we are looking at Video Learning Materials. It is a beautiful topic that I will also want to share my thoughts on.
Assume, that at this time a pandemic occurs. Make online learning materials by the material you master as a teacher or teacher (you must be the one who delivers the material). Duration at least 5 minutes and make it at least according to the existing examples, or you can add your creativity. (6 points) |

In 2020, the world was struck with a pandemic that pushed us to online classes. Today we are looking at thesame scenario so I will be providing an online material for my learner's and below is a breakdown of all that is contained in the class I delivered online.
Subject: | Computer Education |
---|---|
Topic: | Understanding the difference between Hardware & Software |
Time: | 5 Minutes |
Medium | YouTube |
Objectives: | Pupils should be able differentiate between hardware and software components of the system |
Instructional Materials: | Computer Text Book, Public address system |
Previous knowledge: | Last class we discussed introduction to computer where we mentioned the different components. |
Introduction: | Hardware and software are 2 main components of the computer system which means that a computer can not be called computer if any of the component is absent. |
Presentation: | Step 1: Hardware Components are those components that we can see and touch. A good example of hardware components include monitor, keyboard, mouse etc. Step 2: Software components are those components we can not see or touch but work within the system. Example of such components include programs, drivers, operating system etc. Step 3: Basic difference between the hardware and software is that you can see hardware but you can't see software. |
Summary/Conclusion: | In conclusion, the difference between a computer hardware and a computer software is that you can see and touch hardware whereas you can not see or touch software. Though both compliment each other to make the computer functional. |
A description of the material you create, so that it can be understood by many other users. (2 points) |

From the above, you can see a video and a breakdown in tabular form of the discussed material. I decided to discuss the difference between hardware and software because that is the current topic I'm handling with my students in the college.
Based on the above question, I took into consideration a few things such as the topic of discussion, objective of the topic and also a reminder of the previous knowledge among many other things. This is a very good method to teach because reminding them of their previous knowledge activate them to become more active and carried along.
In the introduction, I said Hardware and software are 2 main components of the computer system which means that a computer can not be called a computer if any of the component is absent. So before you can call a device a computer it implies that both the hardware and software component are fully functional together.
During the presentation, I focused on three major things and I named it step 1, step 2 and step 3. So here is how I presented it.
Step 1: Hardware Components are those components that we can see and touch. A good example of hardware components include monitor, keyboard, mouse etc.
Step 2: Software components are those components we can not see or touch but work within the system. Example of such components include programs, drivers, operating system etc.
Step 3: Basic difference between the hardware and software is that you can see hardware but you can't see software
Lastly, I went ahead to conclude the lecture, since my audience are not live with me I didn't ask if they have any question with regards to my discussion instead I concluded by saying in summary the difference between a computer hardware and a computer software is that you can see and touch hardware whereas you can not see or touch software. Though both compliment each other to make the computer functional.
Is it important for a teacher or instructor to have communication skills? Why is it important and why not? (1 point) |
---|
Communication skill is a very important thing that a teacher or an instructor must have in other to effectively transmit knowledge to others. If a teacher can not communicate properly, it will be difficult for the student to understand what he is teaching no matter how good and knowledgeable he is in the course.
Use of simple and straightforward language while teaching will help students and teachers to be on thesame paste because as an instructor you will not have to explain the words you use one after the other because they are self explanatory.
A teacher who possess a good communication is consider a good teacher because your students will understand what ever you are trying to teach them with easy no matter how difficult the topic may look.
Most times, it is not that the students are not good enough to comprehend but because of poor communication skills what they students are suppose to use few minutes to learn and understand they may end up using days to learn it. So this is why communication skill is very important in transferring knowledge.
When you go for an interview for instance, if speaking to the crowed is part of the work you will be doing, you will notice an oral interview will be given to you just to see your communication skills. Now, your class of degree doesn't matter in this place what matters most is your ability to effectively communicate.
What experiences do you have when creating these online learning materials, and what obstacles do you face? (1 point) |

Since I don't have a phone stand or a standard place with chalk board to effectively present this task, I had to look for someone to come and video me as I do the presentation. Ideally, this was supposed to be a presentation I do alone or with a group of students online.
Not having the phone stand subjected me to getting someone to do the video for me. It wasn't easy getting the correct one that looks much perfect to use because in the compound where I stay, there are lots of noise and people coming in and going out and that distracted me so much.
Doing this video outside my room because I needed the video to be clearer was another challenge. I was distracted several times when the video was going on and a lot of people keep passing which always make me to cut and start from the beginning again.
I want to finally invite a few friends of mine, @josepha, @suboohi, and @dove11, to also share their participation in this contest if they haven't done that yet.
