Hi friends, nice having you around again. I've been time-constrained of late to make my publications in the teacher's community. I am delighted to be making my entry for the week.
Teachers are the frontiers of most things our kids represent. A greater percentage of how they behave, believe, and exhibit emanates from the teachers. Not everyone should be a teacher as those early learners who are so enthusiastic may catch up with the bad wagon if unchecked. The kind of teachers we keep in our schools is a makeup of what these kids become thereafter.
Teachers should be exemplary and role models to kids because these kids are imitators. This is one reason we should be careful because these innocent and young minds are at a stage and ready to follow without clear understanding. Therefore, if they are easy to accept whatever comes their way, this means, as teachers, we should be exemplary in what we do before them.
Teachers are "character developers" during their interactions with the students which makes them role models and exemplary. It is best when a teacher has some virtues like integrity, honesty, empathy, kindness, just name it... They can instill these great values which are foundational and basic to their (kids) development. Just like the saying, "train up a child in a way that when he grows up, he won't depart from it".
Teachers are basically trusted allies that can be relied upon by our kids. The trust and confidence built over time come with so much unbroken connection. I see this from my kids each time they come back from school. You could see them talk about their teachers in a manner that shows confidence. Just to buttress the point, it would take you, as the parents, optimum energy to convince them or unlearn them what seems like what their teacher taught them. They so much believe in them and want to behave just as they perceive them to be.
For some parents, all we hear is, "My teacher said this or that," and they carry along these learnings out the four walls of the universities. Therefore, we could see that the teachings of these role models sometimes outlived them. Kids grow up with them and try to emulate these virtues. The character and behavior of the present and future are greatly influenced by teachers. And this can only come from the exemplary androle-modelattributess of our teachers.
No one is perfect, irrespective of how we want to present ourselves publicly. I've had the privilege of being a tutorial instructor as well as a product offering disseminator to a corporate organization. However, some of the negative behaviors;
Impatience:
This is one behavior I was told some time ago while growing up. I'm still amazed how this didn't fizzle out during the growth stages. I find myself impatient while students find it difficult to assimilate tasks even when they have been simplified.Skewed Appraisal:
Every child or student needs to be encouraged positively, irrespective of their falls. I think I also needed to praise students who have done well rather than waiting for their wrongdoings.Inconsistency (Misplaced Flexibility):
To be flexible, some situations turn out to be conflicting due to already treated and passed events. Changing guidelines and trying to bring adjustments here and there sometimes bring confusion.Overly Critical & Skewed Feedback:
Inability to respond in a manner that is coordinated without having to be harsh while responding during feedback. This behavior has a way of discouraging kids, especially being open to interacting and engaging.Neglecting Student Needs:
I have this behavior that does not consider the other needs of students but still affects their classroom activities. These diverse needs, if not considered and factored in, would affect their quality.
Some of the positive attitudes and behaviors that I've always used include;
Being a Good & Active Listener
My ability to be attentive and ensure I understood all feedback from my students has given me the edge to ensure effective learning. This is one educational values that promote good communication skills.Inclusivity to all concerned
I tend to disassociate myself from issues concerning segregation and discrimination. I ensure there is a conducive learning environment where everyone feels included in the learning process. This is drawn from the equity and diversified values inherent in our educational systems.Constructive Responses as Feedback
Ability to always ensure my responses to students are well given other than perceived as criticism. In this way, they learn from such feedback rather than being discouraged and demoralized. For me, I see this as being accountable for our actions and improvement on our personal growth.
- Setting of High Targets & Expectations
Driving those I teach to always aim for higher targets. This has been helpful while delivering targets in the corporate world. When we aim big, we achieve or fall a little below, which still represents excellence. This is self-discipline enforcement for me and perseverance to attain set goals.
- Teamwork & Collaboration
We all know that we can achieve success individually, however this can be achieved faster through teamwork. Therefore, fostering collaboration and teamwork is one sure and fastest way to get the tasks done qualitatively. Cooperation and problem-solving skills are enhanced through this medium.
...hmmm! Benefits? There are benefits from exemplary behaviors demonstrated.
We may talk about increased relationships and interactions among everyone. This is centered on the trust, confidence, and sense of inclusiveness built over time. This allows for stronger bonding and the ability to freestyle during interaction.
For the positive impacts on students, we find situations where behaviors are well modeled with virtues like trust, honesty, kindness, confidence, self-esteem, etc., are grown. In the end, we can find better academic performance as the resultant product.
Thank you, Friends...
I am inviting @huraira50, @rosselena, and @ngoenyi to join the contest if they haven't and still have the time.
