INTRODUCTION
Here we are again, today we want to learn how to cook vegetable soup in a demanding fashion.
It's good to eat likewise, to know how to cook is better. Today's version of LEARN HOW TO COOK show that there are youths in this country that are not lazy especially guys like me. Through acquisition we learned to cook, through hardwork we became experts... To my fellows out there - see make I tell you e no easy to learn and understand and even become experts in this field. Lol.
WHAT ARE WE LEARNING TODAY
VEGETABLE SOUP, are you ready? If so let's get rolling. I will advise you to get your needful requirements for the train - if you are one who wears apron before cooking please do so.
INGREDIENTS
Vegetable soup is not that serious concerning pot members, infact some people don't include most of the members. The following include pot members which is usually used for the preparation of Vegetable soup:
- Stock Fish
- Dried or Ice Fish
- Cow or Goat Skin
- Crayfish
- Periwinkle
- Pepper (fresh)
- Vegetable leaf
- Water leaf
- Spicing cubes (Maggi)
- Onion (optional)
- Palm oil
- Water etc.
LETS START
Firstly, we need to get the ingredients ready for the cooking. It is very important to get certain things already in place to avoid hasty cooking which could lead to a huge complication while trying to get the job done. For example, if you put your waterleaf and the rest of the ingredients on fire before slicing your vegetable, you are bound to experience error. Therefore, it is advisable to get both vegetable leaf and the waterleaf already in place before cooking begins.
- Garri
First and foremost, we will have to boil our water for Garri. Garri is what we use in eating soup, however, there are other alternatives to Garri, such as Semo, Fufu and Usung udia (pounded yam). Please boil the water according to the quantity that you want to consume at the time, it's not enjoyable when cold (Garri).
This is what my Garri looks like, I used a turning stick and a bowl to prepare mine, please do same.
- Preparing the fish
While the water is yet to boil, you are advised to get your fish, cow skin, stock fish ready. How do you do that? Cut your fish and cow skin in your preferred sizes. Tear the stock fish and put them all in water. If you are cooking an ice fish you will have to get rid of the unwanted parts which are the reddish inner part of the fish. Wash them all in clean water, thoroughly to remove the sands and dirt. Then put them in a small pot, cover it for now, Slice your onions (a small onion) using a chop stick, Pound your pepper separately from crayfish, Get one cube of Maggi, and lastly a little salt. Put your onion in the pot of fish and also put a little pepper, one cube of Maggi, a little salt and a very small amount of water.
By this time the water had boiled, then you bring down the kettle and set the pot. Prepare your Garri as narrated above.
- Prepare your leafs
As we all know that the most important thing when preparing any kind of food is to wash thoroughly, infact this is supposed to be a priority for anyone who wants to eat healthy food.
Put your vegetable leaf in large bowl with more water and it at least three times then put it aside. Do the same for your waterleaf, but note that you must pick out the flowering part of the waterleaf.
You need to wash them thoroughly especially if you bought them in the market, mine is from the farm so I know we didn't put any manure or anything sort of.
Now, the next step is to cut it into small pieces. Like shown below.
Please while doing anything, check on the fish on fire to avoid error of burnt fish. Now after cutting the leafs set them aside. Remember we are preparing bit by bit before we start the main cooking.
- Periwinkle
The periwinkle I got from the market was already cut and all I had to do was to wash it as well. The periwinkle is to be washed three to four times depending on the dirt.
COOKING BEGINS
Hahaha, please don't laugh at the color of my oil. It was not that nice.
Like I said earlier, there are many other ways to start your cooking, this is just my preferred method.
Turn the waterleaf into a pot that you want to use for the cooking. Put it on fire, then pour some oil in ( sorry I don't have a measurement). While on fire turn in the pot of fish that you prepared earlier. Put your pounded crayfish and the rest of the pepper, put your salt to taste and then turn your periwinkle into the pot. Cover it let it cool for a while.
Please open the pot and turn the soup so that the ingredients will mix together. Please put some Maggi and then put your vegetable leaf.
The soup is done, vegetable leaf is the last ingredient in this soup the soup ready for eating.
