Continuing from yesterday's night du4y, I was awake so there was no question of getting up late in the morning. I was relieved of the duty at 11:00 am, although I was to continue duty till 10 am only. Perhaps I am gentle, that is why, my relievers take it as an advantage and come according to their convenience. Anyways, after being back, I was exhausted for having not slept throughout the night. But I could not take rest as I was scheduled to head awareness campaign on diabetes . As part of this campaign I had to deliver lecture on diabetic awareness in secondary schools.
Making kids understand daibetes
World Diabetes Day.
Today 14th November, is celebrated as world diabetes day (WDD) . It has been adopted since 1991 by international diabetes foundation and WHO in response to rapid rise of diabetes. Through WDD campaign awareness is being spread regarding measures to confront spread of this disease. WDD campaign has adopted Blue circle Logo since 2007.
The theme for today's WDD was ''The Nurse and Diabetes''. This theme aimed at educating and equipping nurses to support diabetics to mitigate impact of diabetes.
What was my lecture about?
My today's lecture was about measures to prevent development of diabetes. Although diabetes has generic predilection also which means this part of diabetes is not preventable by our efforts. But environmental factors like diet and life style has significant role too. And this part is fully mangeable.
So prime areas of focus are life style modifications which includes giving up sedentary life style and bad food habits. Obesity is a major threat to mankind as for development of non-communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension etc is concerned. And obesity as for my analysis is concerned is attributed to bad food habits and sedentary life style.
It was not sane on my part to explain complex things involved in pathogenesis of diabetes because that is no use to kids. So the take home message for kids was, to practice regular exercise for at least 30 minutes daily apart from their day to day activities and second thing is to shun habit of taking calorie rich, high fat contaiming, junk and fast foods.

Sedentary lifestyle is that in which individual is doing no or negligible physical activity. For example , watching TV , using mobile or computer for most part of day, doing office work sitting on a chair throughout the day etc
Calorie requirement for such lifestyle for a woman is about 1600 calories per day and for Men is about 2000 calories per day.

About the obesity you made mention of, there is a family member of mine his called obesity; this name is very fat because of that he nicknamed him that. I will tell him to reduce the intake of calories!😁😁
