Previously On My Practicum Experience

Five days ago, I shared my amazing Experience with you guys here in regards to my Practicum.

On that write up, I stated the following;

  1. What practicum is,
  2. And I also shared my Experience that week.
    Here's the link

Today, I'll continue from where I stopped.

We wrapped up everything on Study habit last Friday by striking a deal with the students which entails that, any student who disciplines him or herself and studies will be rewarded at the end of our sessions with them, which is known as reinforcement in counselling.

Still on reinforcement, In behavioral psychology, reinforcement is a skill applied which helps to strengthen an organism's next behavior whenever that same behavior is accompanied with a specific antecedent stimulus.

There are two types of reinforcement, negative and positive reinforcement.

Maybe someday, I'll take reinforcement as writing topic on it's own but let's just stick with the general knowledge that it's the addition of a pleasant stimulus (positive reinforcement) or unpleasant stimulus (negative reinforcement) to elicit a response.

Since the students knew that there's actually a gift that comes with their good performance, they now put in more efforts to their studying.

SELF ESTEEM

This week, we directed our energy to teaching them the effect of self esteem in their day to day life.
The speech was opened by a fellow Practicum colleague called peace, she did a nice job by explaining what self esteem was to their perfect understanding.

She likened self esteem to self confidence, giving them in details the importance of self esteem and the reason why it's needed to build self esteem.

Cutting the story short, I was called upon today to talk to the students on another aspect of self esteem.
With much research, I eventually landed into a pdf which I studied and presented to them.

It is on how to develop self esteem.
It talked on different technique, but I actually centered on three which are;

  1. Celebrate you!
  2. Barnish the monkey and
  3. Envision your success

1. Celebrate you! : Celebrate yourself in reference to self esteem means, never belittling yourself, never speaking negative things about yourself and most importantly doing things to your best ability without comparing yourself with others.
Interesting right 🤔
I guess so.😂

2. Barnish the monkey: This is another fantastic way of building self esteem, it centers on replacing an undesirable behavior with a desirable one.
I used a bad cell phone as an example, if someone owns a cell phone with a bad screen, if the person doesn't replace that cell phone, the person won't enjoy the cell phone to it's full ability. So in other to enjoy that cell phone to fullest, the person will have to replace it with a new one. I linked that example with behavior and taught them to replace negative characters with positive ones.

3. Envision your success: There's was this book I read years ago titled THE POWER OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND The book centers on the Three types of mind which are the The pre conscious mind, conscious mind and subconscious mind it elaborated on the power of envisioning things, I referenced the book to them and explained to them the motivation behind envisioning things.
Envisioning things actually means seeing yourself succeed in your imagination and that taught alone gives you the motivation needed to perform a task to fullest ability.

I'll still continue the session with them but for now, I'll have to stop because they'll on their examinations and they need maximum concentration for effective performance.

Actually, it's been am awesome Experience in this school, I actually underestimated my abilities, but am surely enjoying the Experience now.

I think it's a thing of note to say that am here for everyone that needs counseling in amazing community.

Just a gesture of goodwill😊😊
