Children's Day; A special Day for Children
Children’s Day Celebration is an epoch-making event that the
whole world celebrates children and childhood and gives them the feel of love
and importance. The events take on the 27th May of every year. This special
day marked with different activities which include not only match past, visits
to parks, visits to friends.
Hmmm! Every child waits anxiously for this day, especially
when the heads of schools announce it to them at the morning assembly. In my clime,
it is groovy time for kids and none of them wants to miss out in the celebration.
Parents equally show love to their wards by buy gifts for
them. However, the details of the gifts and presents given to the children on
the Children’s Day will be elaborated in the latter part of this post.
Who invented Children’s Day?
This is a salient question. Origin and originators of events
are very important as they help the people celebration to know the whole
essence what they celebrating. So, from history and records, the Children’s Day
celebration was invented by Reverend Dr Charles Leonard in Chelsea, US and I Quote,
“Children's
Day began in 1857 by Reverend Dr Charles Leonard in
Chelsea, US. Even though Children's Day is celebrated globally by most of the
countries in the world on June 1, Universal Children's Day takes place annually on November 20”.
Many countries celebrate Children’s Day on different date. For
Nigeria, we celebrate ours on the 27th May.
Three Things We learnt from Children Who are Close to Me
I discovered that children do bear grudges. If they are punished
for wrongdoing, they may just get angry with the person that meted the punished
them. Within the shortest possible time, they have started flowing the same
person. No wonder, Jesus said we must possess a child-like character for us to
enter the kingdom of God. Wow, what an insight!
Also, children learn by examples. I got to know that from
the children close to me. It may surprise you to know that I teach elocution. So,
a good number of them learn diction as they imitate me, trying to speak the way
I do.
It is therefore necessary as adults with children, we should be careful
of what we show to them.
In fact, children are wonderful of set people I cherish so
much.
Best Gifts for Children on Children’s Day
Well, the word “best” is relative depending on the child in
question. What is best for this may not be the best for the other. So, the best
of my knowledge, there is no best gift for children on Christmas day. However, parents,
uncles, aunties should find out what gifts the children around love and will feel
loved when given.
The children around me love toys and ice cream. For me, dealing
with this kind children makes feel that the best gifts for them are toys and ice
cream.
Morals to Teach Children on Children’s Day
The greatest gift any person can give to child is to educate
him/her on morals. The children are the future generation. For high moral
standard to the be upheld in these future leaders, we parents and
uncles/aunties must inculcate these morals in them. We need to teach them to say
sorry, thank you, the likes. It will go
a long way to reduce the moral decadence growing at a rapid pace in our society
today.
