INTRODUCTION
Marriage is honourable, the Bible says their bed is undefiled. It is what produces family.
A. What kind of relationship should a marriage be?
Marriage at its best is a relationship so close and intimate that the two of you work together as one.
It involves mutual trust, mutual support, mutual defence, mutual comfort, mutual vulnerability, mutual responsibility.
Genesis 2:18. The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a companion who will help him.”
A wife is, a companion and helper!
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10. Two people can accomplish more than twice as much as one. … If one person falls, the other can reach out and help.
Husband and wife, to help hold each other up, when the other falls.
Matthew 19:4-6. “Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’ And he said, ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one, let no one separate them, for God has joined them together.”
Two of them joined together, become one, after a leaving from parental cleavage and are therefore not to be separated.
1 Corinthians 11:3. There is one thing l want you to know: A man is responsible to Christ, a woman is responsible to her husband, and Christ is responsible to God.
Biblical line of authority. Absolutely! So clear; so understandable! But why do most couples miss it? When they create their own illusion of line of authority; follow the world instead of the word of God.
B. How should a husband treat his wife?
Husbands should love their wives sacrificially, with the depth of love that Christ showed when he died for us.
Proverbs 18:22. The man who finds a wife finds a treasure and receives favor from the LORD.
A wife is a treasure (l believe in this instance, a good wife) and when found, releases the favour of God from the Lord to the man who found her.
Ecclesiastes 9:9. Live happily with the woman you love through all the meaningless days of life that God has given you in this world. The wife God gives you is your reward for all your earthly toil.
Your wife is your reward for all your toils on the earth. Live happily with the woman you love through all the meaningless days of your life.
Ephesians 5:21. And further, you will submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Both husband and wife are to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ but that does not take away the fact that the husband is the head of the home and should treat his wife with consideration.
1 Peter 3:7. In the same way, you husbands must give honour to your wives. Treat her with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is heirs together with you of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
Honour your wives, husbands and treat them with understanding as weaker vessels.
C. How should a wife treat her husband?
A wife should love her husband sacrificially, helping and supporting him, believing in him, and submitting to him.
Wives, love your husbands sacrificially, helping him in all ways.
Proverbs 31:11-12. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She will not hinder him but help him all her life.
Dear wives, your husbands should trust you and you will enrich their lives. You will not hinder him but help him all your lives.
Ephesians 5:22-24. You wives will submit to your husbands as you do to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of his body, the church; he gave his life to be her Savior. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives must submit to your husbands in everything.
