Introduction

Vitamins are set of molecules that are important for micronutrients in which organisms need in small quantities for metabolism to function properly.
Most vitamins usually come from food because the body on its own does not produce vitamins. Even if it’s does, it’s usually in small quantity.

Types Of Vitamins

There are several types of vitamins, but I’d explain a selected few.
Vitamins needed by the body includes;

Vitamin A
Vitamin C
Vitamin D
Vitamin E
Vitamin K

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is involved in the functioning of the immune system. Vitamin A contains fat soluble retinoids which helps in cellular growth and development.

Functions Of Vitamin A

Maintenance Of Cell growth
Vitamin A helps to maintain cell growth which plays a vital role in the maintenance of the heart and lungs.

Vision
Vitamin A is also very important for vision as it contains essential components which supports the functioning of the cornea thereby producing good eyesight.

• It also helps to maintain healthy teeth and make the tissues soft.

Sources Of Vitamin A

• Carrot
• Spinach
• Egg
• Apricots
• Papaya

Deficiency Of Vitamin A

• Vitamin A deficiency may lead to eczema which may likely result to dry skin.
• It leads to dryness and inability to produce tears.
• Lack Of vitamin A may result to infertility and trouble conceiving.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin that is found in vegetable and fruits.
It is also known as ascorbic acid and it is an essential nutrient needed in the repair of tissues.

Functions Of Vitamin C

Increase Immunity
Vitamin C helps in the production of white blood cells which helps and protect the body from infection. This vitamin also help help the skin to reduce toxins and help strengthen the skin.
Vitamin C also helps to fasten healing of wound process.

Protects the human memory
Regular intake of vitamin C helps to helps one remember and aids in the ability to think well.
A condition known as Dementia which means the inability to think properly is usually eliminated by the the intake of vitamin c.

Management Of high blood pressure
There is a high chance that high blood pressure could result to heart attack. Vitamin C may help to reduce high blood pressure because it contains supplements that help the blood by carrying blood vessels from the heart which help reduce high blood pressure.

Sources of Vitamin C

The sources of vitamins C includes the following;
• Citrus fruits such as oranges, lime etc.
• Potatoes
• Strawberries
• Blackcurrant
• Pepper

Deficiency of Vitamin C

• Lack of vitamin C leads to dry and damaged skin
• Absence of vitamin C could result to a deficiency called scurvy which result in teeth problems, bruises, dry skin, dry hair and anemia.
• Lack Of vitamin C also results in tiredness, weakness of the body and irritability.

Vitamin D

The human body produces vitamin D during exposure to the sun. Vitamin D can also be boosted due to the intake of certain foods and supplements.

Functions Of Vitamin D

Healthy functioning of the immune system
Regular intake of vitamin D helps the immune system function properly and also helps to autoimmune diseases.
Healthy Bones
Vitamin D helps in the adequate absorption of calcium and also assist in maintaining blood level levels of calcium.
• Vitamin D is also important for the maintenance of teeth and bones.

Deficiency of Vitamin D

• In children, vitamin D deficiency can lead to rickets which will result in bowed legs due to the softening of the bones in the body.
• In pregnant women, vitamin D deficiency increases the change of having high blood pressure.

Sources of vitamin D includes;
• Cheese
• Beef liver
• Egg yolk
• Mushrooms

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an essential vitamin which exist naturally in some foods such as nuts and some vegetables.
Vitamin E is known for its provision of antioxidants which helps to protect the body from harmful molecules known as free radicals.

Functions of Vitamin E

Management of dysmenorrhea
Dysmenorrhea means severe or frequent menstrual pain.
Studies have shown that the combination of vitamin C and E for at least 8weeks could help reduce dysmenorrhea.

Skin health benefits
Vitamin E contains supplements which could help to eradicate some skin problems such as eczema.
• Vitamin E also helps to reduce oxidative stress and increase oxidant defense in the body.

• Mangoes
• Tomatoes
• Almond
• Spinach

Deficiency Of Vitamin E

• Vitamin E deficiency lead to the weakness of the muscle.
• It could also result to immune system problems.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is an important vitamin which is needed in the body for the building of bones and blood clotting.

Functions Of Vitamin K

• Vitamin K plays a vital role in helping the blood clot so as to prevent bleeding.
• It also helps to produce different protein which is needed for building bones.

Sources Of Vitamin K

• Cheese
• Lettuce
• Kiwi
• Cabbage
• Blueberries

Deficiency Of Vitamin K

• Vitamin C deficiency leads to loss of blood and bones
• It increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Conclusion

Vitamins are necessary for the body to function properly. Every deficiency in any vitamin lead to diseases that could harm the body. It is very important that we take foods or fruits containing vitamins regularly.

I'm just asking if those trees that produce vitamin k if the grow in our soil , Nigeria. like kiwi, blueberry, and cheese. How then do we get it to eat it. Seeing they're very costly in the supermarkets.
