Homemade

This term directly correlates to homemakers who are Housewives and homegirls making and maintaining households.

A woman's perception comes to my mind while I am writing this post. Because they are the makers of every family everywhere most of the time.

Homemade things were not something fancy and had a wow factor related to them before the 19th century. It only became a thing after industrialization.

Before that people used to rely only on homemade things for food, make-up, clothes, and other accessories.

My elders used to wash up using milk and Gram flour, for hair, they would use a yogurt mask, and they had the best skin and hair one can ever see.

Coming to food, they didn't have any option to eat refined food due to scarcity. Their only food items were whole grains, vegetables, fruits, meat, and milk.

It is the same diet we try to follow in this ultramodern world where refined food options are infinite.

As Brown people, we tend to make things at home rather than eat out. It's a toxic trait of desi people or a good habit to incorporate, who knows?

It is the effort, love, time, and care that matters, which are involved in making homemade things.

Enough with the rant, coming towards the homemade things I started making years ago as a teenage girl after seeing YouTube videos.

And i realized that my mother was right when she said that these videos are not real, you don't taste their food, only they praise themselves for views (when my dishes turned out bad in taste). Hehehe

I made my first custard when I was a college student. My mother was sick and my aunt was visiting us. I made food for them along with a sweet dish as my mother instructed me.

I clicked its photos with my first Android phone, fortunately, otherwise, who would've known my talent:p.

After that, I started to like making sweet dishes because people can't resist sugar. My elders still can't digest innovative cakes, desserts, and puddings. They still prefer homemade custards, kheer, and sawaiyan on Eid and family get-togethers.

Sharing custards made by me below:

Made it last summer, and electricity was gone for the whole day, I don't know how the cream on the top survived, you can see it melting and ruining my decor

One can't live forever to please others only, so I chose to bake some cakes, cinnamon rolls, and Apple pie and made some puddings and mango and Oreo delights.

I first started baking cakes and fell in love with burning them. I don't know why but out of my dozens of attempts only one cake would turn out really really good or at least aesthetic.

It was a red velvet cake for me and I think I made it on my parent's wedding anniversary

I was disappointed after tasting my homemade pudding. HahahHaha. Its taste was weird, I felt gulululu in my mouth if that is even a term. No one liked it much and I was begging them to have it or at least taste it. But Nah my family preferred their health over my cooking.

Mango Delight turned out really good. Just look at it, would it taste bad? No, right? But still, no one ate it because they were busy eating Meat on Eid.

I had to eat the whole container in one day, because i am vegetarian and had only this choice. No regrets about the calories, it was yummy.

Any event in Pakistan is incomplete without sweets/Mithai. One of the famous and my favorite sweets is Gulab Jamun. When we were shut down in our homes during COVID, I saw its recipe on Instagram and made it right away.

It was a proud moment when my father asked who brought this sweet and I proudly told him that i had made it:p

Out of all these things my mother liked only my Apple pie whose dry fruit topping burnt but she liked its fillings.

When I wasn't expecting her to like my baking she did like it. It was the best feeling seeing your parents praising and eating the food you made for them.

I suppose I should end my homemade sweet dishes here and show some more things that are also tried by this girl.

Like this candle jar, I made it at home years ago. I took a small empty jar of Apple jam and washed it. I got my hands on some candle wax, melted it and poured it inside the jar.

I was inspired by homemade scented candles back then but I forgot the scent part. It turned out like any regular candle when burnt, but it was good for some aesthetic shots. I ckicked this shots for steemit in 2021.

I had also made a dream catcher at home inspired by a Kdrama. The concept behind it was to make your dreams turn into reality. When I made it I was fasting and had nothing else to do. I completed it before Sunset in the west:)

Also made a mini classic calendar but forgot to do it professionally because it's the way I function. I wrote a quote on every page for motivation or just for fun. These days this calender is found in one of the boxes i open rarely:(

It says i am a normal girl(deep down you know you're not)

Lastly, I also made a respiratory system for my younger sister, showing how lungs expand and contract while breathing. I made it all by myself.

I also got gifts of flower bangles made at home by my siblings and cousins.

If i am given a choice between get it all done or do it yourself at home, i will always choose homemade. I am after the process, effort, fulfilment, and dopamine. Also doing it for your loved ones is the ultimate goal

@yaladeeds and @mehwish-almas you're invited ladies.

I have used some of these pictures on steemit before. These are clicked on multiple mobiles, though the work behind these homemade things is done by me

Pleasure! 🎕

All your handmade things are amazing. I want to try that apple pie 🥧😇. The ring, candle and that beautiful dream catcher are amazing. I think we all have same problems with those youtube videos 🤭. Thanks to those videos, I found that I'm a worst beaker 😂. You gulab jamans look like very authentic type of Pakistani Mathai. I once made them and they came out like hard balls with red coating...... By the way, what did you make on that pudding? I can't understand that three dots in a rectangle...
اک اور بات بھی ہے جب آپ کوئی چیز بہت اچھی بنا لیں تو پھر وہ جب بھی وہ چیز بننی ہو تو آپ ہی کو یاد کیا
I always play safe😊🙊جاتا ہے۔۔۔۔۔اس لئے

Thank you mehwish, ghar waloun sy zaida tareef krdi h🤣

By the way, what did you make on that pudding?

Hahahahaha that was cream but not wipped. I tried to decor it but it turned out a drawing paper i barely passed;p

And for gulab jamuns, you should fry them on low flame, otherwise, they'll burn.

Mine weren't hard wese, i had added oil and desi ghee(amma say chup kar).

😉

I'll try your technique 🤞👍
