Hello my lovely steemians hope you’all are good and today I want to share with you guys how earthworm works. Earthworms are soil dwelling and can use many materials in the soil as food including plants and animals remains. Their bodies are streamed lined with no legs, fins and arms they are surrounded by circular muscles. The breathe through their skin Which must remain moist to absorb oxygen from the air.

Economic importance or benefits of earthworms

Earthworm have got lots of benefits or economic importance to mankind, here are some of them below;

• Increases soil fertility: Earthworms Increases nutrient in crops thereby feeding on plants and soils. Their bodies decompose rapidly,further contributing to the nutrients content of soil.

• Enhances soil structure: As we all know that worms are beneficial to our plants and are friends of farmers because they enrich the soil by excretion.it increases the fertility of soil known as vermicompositing.

• it helps repair damaged or contaminated soil: soils gets easily contaminated due to industrial or environmental pollution and this contamination can reduce the soil’s quality nutrients to the plants. Therefore, earthworms helps fix damaged soils through a process by which microorganisms breakdown contamination and converting them into non toxic particles thereby cleaning the soil and improving its quality.

Characteristics of An Earthworm

There are numerous characteristic or features of an earthworm which include;

✅ It possess cylindrical, segmented and long body.
✅ It has male and female sex organs which is called hermaphrodite
✅It has a skeleton that are not in full motion
✅It has an integral part nervous system
✅It has secretory gland cells which detect taste,smell,sounds and temperature
✅its digestive system runs through the body
✅Their body repairs through their skin
✅Their blood stream system, which is made up of the three functions which is capillaries, vessels and heart

Disadvantages of earthworms

Earthworm can also harm our plants,it can cause harm to the plants ability to take water from nutrients from the soil and can highly lead to plants detoriation which includes;

• They easily overpulate in crops thereby diminishing it’s crops nutrients.
• They tear up your lawn in search of food and destroying your hard work.
• Earthworms changes the soil which in turn reduces the nutrients in plants.

Conclusion

Earthworms are the often cool and harmless in terms of crops and in our residences too. They’re also inhabit of feed on organic and they’re commonly called farmers friend.
