Hello Steemians, I am so delighted to participate in this beautiful contest in Steem For Ladies Community by @ruthjoe, thank you so much ma for this amazing contest, it is my pleasure to drop my entry and I do hope that you all enjoy my post.
In this week's story, I want to share with you the story about my community (Awayi)
What happened
A few days back, I was opportune to go visit my grandmother and we spent quality time with each other.
While we were having a conversation, my grandma said something that had to do with my community which drew my attention into asking her so many questions concerning the history of my community.
My grandma was so happy about the questions I asked her and she didn't hesitate to answer all the questions that I asked her, she told me so many things about my community that I need to know and they are as follows:
The meaning and origin of the name Awayi
The name Awayi means visibly big, catches the glimpse of the eyes, is worth watching, and looks great.
The name came to be as a result of the charismatic nature of our forefathers. History has it that the said people were traditional worshipers and how they mourn the death of their loved ones was having traditional dances at the premises of the deceased.
It was a practice in the entire Wakama Clan, Wakama is another Clan in Eggon nation and also, eggon nation at large so Awayi people were not exempted. During such occasions, history has it that Awayi people's masquerades always distinguished themselves by their traditional costumes which were more costly and rare to get in other clans, their charismatic nature of dances made other masquerades and people stop displaying just to watch Awayi people on how they displayed.
As Awayi masquerades were coming into the dancing arena, older women chanted, the charismatic people were coming in, the good-looking people were coming, the good dancers were coming in, the world should look at them.
What you have learned from it
Honestly, I learned so many things from my grandma, the history of my community is something that I was supposed to know even before now but I didn't bother to take the necessary actions and research to know I now know a lot of things concerning my community
I learned that our grandparents are also great teachers, my grandmother explained every question that I asked her one after the other in a way and manner that all her teaching was well understood.
I also learned how my community people and their masquerades were so entertaining.
This is how the name came to be. More inputs, please
Thank you all for your usual support, love, and time that you have dedicated to reading my post. I love you all❤
I want to invite @ruthjoe and @dave-hanny

Great time to have a caring Grandma who stood fame with his granddaughter. I recur when I was writing a project and I was directed to write on the history of my community market known as Akpan-Andem market.
I knew how tough it was because I wasn't informed on how the market was originated. My regards to your grandma.
