Introduction

Hi ladies, it's story time. So I attended a wedding ceremony today, Saturday 24th August. I had a lot to do, but I shifted them to after the event while I managed to do some before I left for the wedding. It was 10 minutes past 10 already. The wedding was to start at 10. I had to rush in order to meet up at least before the Bible reading. Luckily, I got there when the processional hymn was going on.

What Happened

The processional hymn usually ushers in the bride while the praise and worship is when the groom marches in. To my surprise, the two items were taken, and the couple were yet to arrive at the venue of the event. The congregants started murmuring, the choir stand where I sat wasn't left in the side talks as to why the couple were not in church.

People were just going up and down, placing their phones on their ears. I guess they were calling the couple to know what happened and to inform them that the service had begun. As if that wasn't enough, the sermon for the service was taken. The preacher said the church would not wait until they arrived so, whenever they came, they would join the service.

We were all seated and waiting for the arrival of the couple. Like me, I guess most people didn't even listen to the sermon, rather, still watching when they will arrive. The sermon had long gone almost rounding up when the couple quietly walked in, no standing ovation or special recognition as they walked in. It was an hour later after the service had begun.

As if that wasn't enough, the pastor who was to join the solemnisation wasn't their resident pastor. I noticed the pastor's wife pleading with him. She was persuading the pastor to stay behind.

Immediately after the preaching, the pastor who wanted to leave came to the pulpit. He said he wanted to leave because he had another engagement, which according to him, that was the time he should leave in order to meet up with the meeting.

Speaking to the couple, he said he wasn't pleased with the time they came in. According to him, they were the ones who fixed the time for the church and that the church worked on the time they gave. He said he was really embarrassed by what they did.

He proceeded. First, he told the chief bride's maid to leave the bride alone and take another seat because her dress wasn't compliant. She moved to the back, as the solemnisation was ongoing, the chief bride's maid walked into the church again with a big white towel to cover herself in order to continue with her duty. The pastor again said that she should leave and that she didn't tell her to come back.

It was really dramatic and a bit embarrassing. First, the couple came in late without recognition. Secondly, the chief bride's maid's outfit was disapproved by the pastor. As if that wasn't enough, she came in with a white towel to cover herself. What is it in a wedding?

Lessons learnt

We belong to different groups and organisations. These groups have their rules and regulations, they have their modus oprandi which we are aware of. We should always try as much as possible to imbibe by the rules, especially when we know the consequences of our actions.

Moreover, being time conscious is very important. Some people are just known for lateness. This is wrong. And most people don't see anything wrong with it. Attending events on time, even before the time slated can tell the kind of people we are, in fact, it has a way of adding some value and respect to us.

Are you one of those who attends an event as you want, and you see nothing wrong with it? Oh no, it's wrong, I hope you will turn a new leaf today.

On the other hand, I quite know that many people find it difficult to keep to strict rules and regulations. But why is that difficult? If you know you can't keep up with those rules and regulations, please pull out to avoid embarrassment. Not everyone is lucky to overlook your errors. Simple obedience pays.
Great lessons learnt and notes taken.
