What should be taken care of before starting a roof garden?
Firstly: whether there is a dam somewhere on the roof, usually in the case of old buildings. If there is a dam, you should consider that your roof was not properly welded during the last roof welding and there are small holes in the roof. This condition is detrimental to any roof with or without a garden. That's why waterproofing is the right way. To protect the roof from rain and to regulate the temperature of the room, a separate covering of at least three inches of thickness is required on the roof with lime-slurry and brickwork.
Secondly: small trees should be selected which are perennial and bear more fruits. Therefore, hybrid varieties of trees or grafted trees can be planted. Khat species are very fast growing and fruit bearing trees which are good for roof gardens. Planting cuttings instead of seeds gives very quick results.
Thirdly: select varieties that are uncommon and have high yields in a short period of time. Various hybrids or pen varieties such as Amarupali, Mallika mango, Apple cool, Guava, Lemon, Papaya, Olive mango, Karmacha, Sharifa, Ata, Pomegranate, Strawberry, Baukul, Applecool, Coconut cool, Lychee, Thailand red jamrul, Apple jamrul, Grapes, guavas, Thai guavas, khudijams, ash fruits, and even bananas can be planted. These days some high quality seedlings are coming to the country from abroad, you can collect and plant these to fulfill the taste of rooftop garden. Select trees that will bear fruit within 6 months to a year if properly planted.
Fourthly: you need to arrange the plants depending on how the sunlight reaches your roof and which side has more light and which side has less.
Fifth: Choose in advance which method to start planting trees on the roof. Such as Chowbachcha method, fixed bed method, drum method, top method can be easily transferred from one place to another. The tub size is usually not very good for fruit trees. Fruit trees can be planted in larger tubs. In that case, large tubs made of cement can be used. Adequate organic fertilizers should be used for tub cultivation. Half Drum At present most of the people are using the half drum method of roof garden. The bottom of the drum should be perforated. A piece of brick should be placed in the holes and then the first one inch of brick should be removed from the bottom of the drum. So that the water is drained.
Chowbachcha method: A permanent chowbachcha can be made by placing a water tank or chowbacha-shaped ring slab on the roof one to one and a half feet high and on three to four pillars by casting pieces of brick and cement. The environment of the roof can be easily maintained by cultivating fish and aquatic plants in this type of pond.
Fixed bed method: Fixed bed is a modern method. Before planting the garden on the roof, the net should be finished by welding.
