Steemit has really become my home nowadays as it is hard for me a day not to spend time on Steemit and explore around. In participation to the contest that is held by @patjewell on which choices to pick. After going through all the available choice here today, I have decided to go with Study. It is really an interesting and excellent choice that I belong I will be able to explore around so well.
So many articles have been written about study and what it is really entails and much more. There are a whole lot of us that is actually finding it difficult to cultivate good studying habit. In today post, I will be talking about effective studying techniques and not only that I will be sharing with us some of the learning strategies which I believe you can apply that can enhance your studying ability.
First of all starting, what does it really mean to study. As a students, effective studying habits is very crucial for your academic success and even much more beyond students. It helps to point out the significance of been aware of how you can read, learn and apply what are reading. Having good effective studying techniques will help learners to be able to comprehend and understand information. Not only that but also helps you to manage your time effectively which will help you achieve that your desire goal either academically or in any other aspect of life.
Types Of Effective Study Techniques
So many people have the difficulty establishing or having a study techniques. In fact several times I have come to discover that the issue is not what is been read or even the person but just proper techniques are not really put in place to aid the studying time. At the end of the day, I conclude that no student is dull or which your brain can't comprehend information or what you are learning. All that I strongly believe is just lacking is effective study techniques which I will be sharing with us some of them today hoping it will help you to learn and study effectively much more.
- Active Recall
The first techniques on my list which will be active recall. Trust me a whole lot of us when reading or studying hardly practice this skill when studying. This means you are constantly and actively trying to recur information from your memory without not looking at either the books, notes or textbook you are currently studying or reading. One of the importance of this technique is the fact that it usually helps you to strengthen your memory retention because at that particular time, your brain is been engaged with in recalling information.
- Repetition:
This is the second technique and it is quite similar to the first one. So many of us does not actually understand the power of repetition when studying and that is why we don't get adequate result when studying. In intervals of time, try to review and read materials over and over again as this will make the brain to retain the information or what you are studying for a very long period of time. Instead of studying at one single interval, you studied it over time.
- Mind Mapping.
There is something called mind mapping which I constantly make use of when studying for my academics or probably when studying any book. It works in a way that I try to actually create visual representation and diagrams in my head that represent concepts and what I am reading. By doing so, it helps to quickly understand complex topic while reading and ease assimilation faster also. This will help you to get effective result in your studying time.
- Self-Explanation:
Self explanation is one of the most effective studying techniques that I really love so much because it makes one to remember what you read longer and it last in your brain. This also works in a way that you are trying to explain concepts and what you read in your own words and understanding. In this situation, you are not referring to notes or the books you are reading. You read it and then you organise it in your own understanding. This particular methods actually go a long way in helping you to understand quickly and not only that but also promote retention. This will help your brain to process information.
.
- Visualization.
During self explanation, one of the things you must not joke with is what I called visualisation. This is similar to the mind mapping I talked about because you create mental images that try to represent that which you are reading. This works in making your memory retention stronger. You represent information with mental images. This will help you to easily understand and remember when later you need it.
- Chunking.
For many of us, probably this is the first time we are hearing about this Chunking. Let me quickly explain what it means. When it comes to chunking, you are actually breaking down large information to smaller pieces so as to help in memory and quick assimilation. Instead of spending times to understand huge information, you actually take them step by step in explaining and understanding also. By doing so, you will be able to understand and remember quickly.
- Regular Review.
The next studying techniques I have on my list is the constant or regular review. Like I said studying is not only limited to just once, you need to constantly and constantly review and go through what you are reading in a bid to actually understand much more better and grab that which you are trying to explain. It prevent you to forget what you are read and not only that but also helps you to be able to refresh your memory at the needed time.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I will like to round by saying that it is actually necessary that we pay careful attention on how we study so as to get the maximum result out of it. There are many more studying techniques out there but I just decided to go with this seven today and I am definitely sure that if you can apply those seven, you will definitely get utmost result when studying.
I will like to invite @liasteem and @ashley-p to participate in this awesome contest.
