Tell your story #27 (Going through a difficult phase and breaking free)

An unforgettable event happened to my mom on Wednesday (18th December, 2024).I almost lost my mom during this terrible experience and I feel so much pain each time I have a flashback of it. Quickly, let me dive into the details. I woke up on Wednesday to see lots of missed calls on my phone, checking my call logs out, I noticed the calls were from my mom. Since I'm not staying with her, I had to recharge my phone and call her back as it's unusual to see that much missed calls from her.

My mom and I, have this policy of not calling each other more than twice except it's an emergency and so far we were keeping to that policy so seeing about nine (9) missed calls from her would be considered an emergency, right? Yeah, that's why I said it was unusual.

I called my mom back and I could hear lots of noise on the background and she sounded like someone who was crying, I asked her what the problem was and she only told me to come to the house and I didn't know to react. My mom will always keep you in suspense, why won't she just tell me what's going on, so I'd know how to resolve it without going to the house? In this T-pain economy we're currently experiencing in Nigeria, one thing I sure want to do is to spend and manage my resources wisely. I was just curious and I had to book a bolt back home because going to the park will be a great delay to my journey.

When I got home, I saw my mom crying and my siblings were consoling her. I rushed down to her and asked her again what the problem was, she told me the money she saved in her saving box is missing and I was speechless, tears rolled down my eyes. Many wild thoughts flowed in my mind at the moment but I had to get a hold of myself and not break down yet. My mom has literally been crying through out the night, her face had swollen and she was now looking reddish. I asked her another question, who knew about the box? She said it's only my dad, her and myself that knew about it. Just then, I couldn't hold myself anymore, I knew I was in for a big struggle.

That saving box was my only hope of getting support from my mom for school and now, it's gone! I mean, all my mom's effort, struggles and hustles just went into the thin air just like that. Money she saved from 1st of January till 17th December, 2024. Ah! I wept bitterly, I asked God so many questions, was he really enjoying to see us suffer? We had so many plans for that money but now it's nowhere to be found.

I felt hopeless but I had to be strong, told my mom not to cry anymore, I consoled her and just as we were about going inside my mom passed out. See us (my siblings and I) running helter skelter, looking for water to pour on her to revive her. We prayed like never before and fortunately she was revived, we took her to the hospital and the doctors said she needs to be admitted, but she was shortly discharged.

Till now, I'm yet to recover from the shock. If there's anything that broke me this year, it's this dreadful experience and I don't even wish it for my enemy. Like, where am I supposed to run to now? I know funny things happens but this is extreme! I just hope God will see us through and make us smile again.

In all these, I've learnt not to put my trust in anyone or anything. Making plans on someone's money or resources will only frustrate your life.

Spending your money unwisely with the hope of another is a big mistake that one will ever live to regret.
