CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY AS A FAMILY

No one can have everything in this world, be thankful for what you have and accept what you don't have. It's only a matter of contentment.

A woman is a solid foundation and building block to every home. A woman is the general overseer to every home and enables every single growth. I am one of those women who is proud to be a woman every second and day.

I live in Bamenda in a compound with 10 families who share love and joy with each other. We call ourselves the SOLIDARITY NEIGHBORS. Days before the women's Day, all the ladies made a program to commemorate the day. It's a beautiful program which involved everyone right to the children including food and drinks to share.

Thursday we bought our items for food since we live in a zone of crisis and general the day is a ghost town. Thursday was spent fixing huckleberry and in the morning the heat of the day starts

Our program for the day

As early as 5:43am we got an alert from our compound leaders to wake up for our morning exercises and keep for as we do each morning. Accompanied with music we do some exercises and engaged our mothers into the activities. This got the attention of other neighbors who stood watching us. By 8:30am we were finished and got into making a community breakfast. It was an exciting activity and the men in the compound were surprised as we didn't inform them of our activities. Everyone happily ate their breakfast and took a cool bathe while the ladies continued with the other preparation and I later engaged in some arts and crafts with other two neighbors.

GEARING UP AND THE HEART OF THE DAY

After an hour of rest we engaged in preparation our main meal for the day and drink; fufu corn, huckleberry and katikati to push down with fuleri (naturally prepared juice). This got us to about 3:30pm but at 3:00pm I went up to the church to see the parish priest in preparation for my wedding. By 5:00pm we all gathered at the compound yard and first ensured our children had their fill before the adults. Seeing what we were doing the men supported us with some drinks to spice the day and we feasted till 09:00pm when we departed to our homes and rested for the day
