DIY sewing

Sewing is a skill I love so much so I do it wholeheartedly and I really love it. My mom sews so I learnt the skill quite early because as a child I was already passion driven.

I was given a task to sew an apron for my sister to use for her home economics practical I had to give it my best shot and I also want to show the steps I took to get the apron at last.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Material
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread

STEP 1

Taking measurements: So firstly you take the measurements of the person to be sewed for. So in this case it is an apron, firstly we measure the length, then the chest, that's basically all the measurements needed.
Note:The areas of measurement differ according to the type of cloth to be sewed.
So after taking the measurements I wrote it down in a book so I'll not forget. As a tailor you are expected to have measurements book where you pen down your measurements.

STEP 2:

Cutting the material:
This is a very crucial step and almost the most important step in sewing because if the cutting is wrong the whole task is going to be fruitless, so I folded the material into two and measured the length then I marked it out using my tailor's chalk and then I used scissors to cut it out according to the measurements.

STEP 3

Sewing the material: so after cutting the apron according to the measurements, I took it to the sewing machine to sew it together. First of all I put the pocket which is easy and then I sewed it together, since I needed two pockets I sewed two pockets. I joined the rope in the neck and then in the waist region. I also bend the edges to look neat.

STEP 4

The last step is the finishing job so I neatly bend the joining and then I shaped the apron and I ironed it to look very neat and presentable.

Apron is a material that is worn over a dress when a chef or someone is about to cook. The apron prevents food stains from the main cloth and it is very important to be worn especially by chefs.

I invite @mesola, @usoro01 and @comfortpeter to participate in this contest.
