Curator Cat: Belated Caturday Update With New Kittens!

Greetings Fabulous Felines and Hoomans of Steemlandia!

We are running a little late this week, with our Caturday post... but better late than not at all, right?

As it happens, the Hoomans were actually busy with some unexpected plumbing repairs in the house, and since we cats do not have opposable thumbs there was nobody to operate the computer keyboard for me!

But that's OK, because today I just stood on the Dad-Hooman's desk until he realized that we needed to post some cat pictures.

Our young cats are starting to feel a lot more at home in their new surroundings.

They have almost been here for two weeks now, and much of their original nervousness and tendency to run and hide has worn off... as they discover that neither Hoomans nor cats of this household mean them any harm.

The politics of playtime

The Hoomans learned a little more about the kittens' backstory... which is not quite what we originally thought.

Evidently a box of nine kittens was left by the animal shelter's front gate, very early one morning, before the first staff members arrived. The shelter people believe the kittens were born to an indoor-outdoor "barn cat" who was friendly with Hoomans, but partially feral.

The kittens so far have only explored the upstairs part of the house — which has fewer hiding spaces than the lower level — and are getting quite comfortable.

So far, they have only met Smudge through the safety of the baby gate, but they have touched noses and all seems to be pretty friendly.

Based on the relatively short time they have been here, it seems like we are all a good match for each other!

Both Shangri and Nala are uncommonly sweet natured cats, which we consider a big plus, particularly since they are going to be 90% indoor cats now.

We just have too many predators here to feel safe about allowing them outside.

Hello!

Meanwhile, the Hoomans are doing a good job of making sure that I — as "original cat" still get plenty of attention, with the newcomers in the house. And I appreciate that!

And that's abut it, for this week's update. Thanks for coming to visit, and we hope to see you again!
