It is always a joy for me whenever I have the opportunity to participate in the Steemit contest weekly and today I will be participating in the crypto academy community contest. Stay tune below.

What's Plantar Fasciitis? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post.

There were actually a whole lot I was able to learn from the topic Plantar Fascitis which I have not even been able to finish. I learnt that It is actually a very common foot condition that is affecting a lot of people which usually happen that causes pain around the heel or at the bottom of the foot. Most of the time it happens when the foot tissue called the plantar fascia is inflamed. I also learnt that these types of conditions is common around athletes and even people who always spend lot of hours on their feets. I also learnt that if it is not quickly treated, it can lead to more serious complications like affecting the mobility of that person and even much more.

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis.

There are some causes of plantar Fascitis which I have actually noticed which affect a lot of individuals which I will be talking about.

  • Overuse: This is the first. Even though exercise is good, there are some activities that if we engage in like running and jumping that can continue to stress our fascia.
  • Foot Structure: Most of the time, the structure of the foot at times can also affect it. If you have flat feet, you have more tendency to strain your fascia which can lead to the condition.

  • Improper Footwear: There are some shoes that if you wear them, it might increase the risk of suffering from the Plantar Fasciitis which many of us are not always aware of actually.

  • Weight Gain: This is the last gain. If you are obese in nature or have massive weight gain, you can begin to add excessive pressure on your feet which can at the end of the day strain your fascia.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

There are some symptoms that you can pay attention to at the early stage to know whether you are already having plantar Fascitis. Some of them I listed below;

  • Sharp Pain Around The Heel

  • Stiffness

-Swelling Around Your Foot

  • Tenderness.

Treatment Options for Plantar Fasciitis.

This is the part I believe is also very important. There are several forms in which we can treat the condition which are below.

  • Home Remedies: There are some home remedies that we can engage into like Rest, and even getting some pain relief.

  • Stretching Exercises: Another form of treatment is exercise. When we continually exercise ourselves, it helps to reduce the strain on the muscles.

  • Supportive Footwear and Orthotics: There are some footwear that I believe we can wear which can also help to deal with the strain on our foot.
  • Medical Interventions: Then lastly when the condition is in several cases, it is preferable to have medical intervention like some physical therapy or even some injections. In fact surgery can even be recommended if the pain is chronic.

Prevention of Plantar Fasciitis.

Like they always say, prevention is always better than Cure, I believe there are some preventives measure we can take to help deal with plantar Fascitis. These are below;

  • Always wear supportive shoes

  • Avoid standing for long

  • Always watch your weight

  • Engage in constant exercises.

Lifestyle Adjustments for Managing Plantar Fasciitis

For someone that have the plantar Fascitis, there are some changes that the person can incorporated to his or her lifestyle to help make the difference and adjustments.

  • Modifying Activities: I believe this is the first. Try to change some activities you engage into.

  • Routine Stretching: There is some daily stretching that the person can start engaging in which will be of help.

  • Try to change the type of shoes you wear. Always wear supportive shoes.

  • Prioritizing Rest: Then lastly, did not take for granted rest. Rest is always important.

How would you diagnose a plantar fasciitis? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?

When it comes to diagnosing plantar Fascitis, there are some investigations and assessment tests that I believe one can carry out which are these below;

1. Medical History.

I will make sure to try to engage the patient in order to get some last symptoms like the duration and also the nature at which he or she experienced the pain. I will also try to find the triggers for this pain so that I can know which type of exercise most of the time either increases the pain or reduces the pain for the patient.

2. Physical Examination.

This is the second form of investigation that I will carry out and that is by physical examination. I will try to either engage in palpation, engage in either range of motion or even try some weight bearing tests also so as for me to identify whether the patient has some abnormal pain or not as regards the pain.

3. Windlass Test.

Another form of test I will carry out is the windlass test. In this type of test, the patient toe is examined so as to deal with the ankle id there is any swelling up. I will also try to carry out some tests around the plantar fascia which is the tissue so that I can check the condition of the tissue.

4. Single-Limb Heel Raise Test.

Even though this type of test is not like that common but it is very important and in this type of test, I make sure that the patient stand on a particular foot so that I can notice whether there is any pain felt during the movement. If any pain is felt, that means it might indicate plantar Fascitis.

5. X-rays.

This is another form of diagnosis of plantar Fascitis and in this form, there is detection of bone Spurs that can be associated with the plantar Fascitis which can point out whether there is fracture or even the conditions.

6. MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).

This will be the last but not mostly engaged into except if there is a very several case of it. Whenever there is a chronic case of tears around the ankle or footz then this is carried out. It is called the magnetic resonance imaging.

Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practising.

Alright for this contest, I participated in three contest which I will be explaining below;

  • Calf Stretch
  • Toe Curl Exercise
  • Heel Raise Exercise

1. Calf Stretch

Screenshot_2024-11-27-17-00-46-248_com.miui.gallery.jpg

In this particular exercise, I was actually sitting but making used that I was bending my heel using my hand. I at first felt this feeling of tension most especially around my calf muscles. And one of the things I actually noticed that benefited me was the fact that I began to feel flexibility around my calf muscles which now relieved stress for me actually.

2. Toe Curl Exercise

This is the second exercise I engage in which was also relatively easy for me. In this aspect, I actually make sure my toes was been bent while sitting as you can see in the picture above. At first it was actually challenging for me but as time goes on, it aids my toe flexibility and which helps me for my foot strength the more at the end of the day. I really enjoyed it.

3. Heel Raise Exercise

I was standing on this particular exercise then I was resting on the chai while lifting my heels off the ground for some seconds. I actually felt this burning feeling around my muscles because it was at first challenging but as time goes on I discovered that it helps to enhance blood flow around my calf muscles the more.

Observations

Task 1 (3/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about plantar fasciitis, it's symptoms, causes, and types. Plantar Fasciitis can be caused by many reasons and that's good you point out then. I appreciate your effort.

Task 2 (3/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination and history taking, performing investigations and specialized tests. You can also add ultrasound test that is perform to assess ligaments, muscles and tendons. Excellent.

Task 3 (3.3/4)
You try the toe curls, calf stretch and heel raise. You did the heel raise correctly. But in calf stretch try to keep your leg straight and then perform stretch and would be better to record this video from wide angle. In toe curls you have to keep your foot on floor and then perform this exercise. Otherwise your perform well. Always remember to cold therapy & rest is the best therapy in the treatment of plantar fasciitis. I appreciate your efforts.

Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from plantar fasciitis or any type of heel pain. Thank you.
