🦷 1.- Do you know what periodontal disease is?
Periodontal Disease |
---|
Gum problems are known by many in Bangladesh. However, they do not understand how serious Periodontal Disease actually can be. The swelling and infection in the gums or the tissues around the teeth is a disease. Swollen, red gums and bleeding while brushing or chewing are early symptoms. Gingivitis is the first stage of it. The disease can get worse if it’s not treated on time. The pain can spread to the roots of the teeth or the bone around the gums. It can make the teeth loose or maybe permanently damage them. People tend to ignore it as most of them believe that it’s nothing important.
🦷 2.- Write some of the causes of periodontal disease
Many reasons of periodontal disease are in Bangladesh. These reasons mostly relate to our habits everyday. The primary reason is poor care for teeth. Most people only brush one time a day and don’t floss. It's left with food particles around the teeth that it doesn't remove as plaque and then infection occurs. Leading causes are also smoking and tobacco. They make the gums weak and increase the risk of infection. People also with diabetes or who have long-term health problems are at greater risk. Usually people are not aware about these causes. The gums are slowly damaged without proper care.
🦷 3.- Can you tell us how periodontal disease is classified?
Classification of Periodontal |
---|
Periodontal disease has two main stages: Gingivital Dis & Peridonal Dis. Gingivitis, the early stage, is commoner in Bangladesh. It leads to red swollen gums and bleeds while brushing. At this point, tooth structure is not compromised. The bad news is that if left untreated, it turns into Periodontitis. It’s a serious stage. It damage the roots and bones around the teeth. The teeth become loose when the grip of the gums on the teeth breaks. We believe it is a more common problem in rural areas. Small problems are ignored by many people and do not go to the dentist. This gives the disease enough time to make its way throughout the tooth and do major damage.
🦷 4.- How can we prevent periodontal disease?
Simple habits can prevent gum disease in Bangladesh. It’s important to brush and floss twice a day. It helps get between the teeth to remove food particles. It’s important to go for regular dental check-ups, something many in Bangladesh forget to do. Often, scaling or teeth cleaning is overlooked that leads to long term problems. It is also very important to avoid smoking and chewing tobacco because they hurt the gums. But eating less sugary food and more fruits and vegetables also helps. Through the practice of these habits people can avoid gum disease and keep their teeth healthy.
