Contest! // Road traffic injuries

It is my great pleasure to contribute to the thought-provoking competition initiated by @khursheedanwar and entitled ‘Road Traffic Injuries.’ It elevates an important and yet, under-discussed topic that impacts millions of people internationally. Accidents contribute not only to a great amount of pain and suffering but also to many socio-economic consequences in road traffic injuries. By organizing this contest, we believe that we will be able to improve people’s awareness of this issue, prompt them to discuss it and share ideas on how to prevent such needless losses of lives. Thus as we probe the roles and the multifaceted ways which road traffic injuries assume in the societal structure we aim to make the world a safer and knowledgeable one.

Thanks to the benevolence of Allah, I have never had any significant road traffic injury. But there is one event in my childhood that I recall so, so clearly to this day. When I was in nursery, I personally experienced this while I was in a rickshaw alongside my uncle going home from school. What I did not expect though was that a second auto rickshaw was coming from behind and rammed into the former which toppled and from which I was forcefully removed. I had discomfort and tenderness in my knees and hands, and there was some blood in those areas. Despite my early age, I experienced significant fear, but fortunately, I did not get any severe injuries due to divine intervention.

Regardless of how small this experience was, a conception of the threats that road traffic poses was instilled in me. They also urged people to embrace appropriate measures on the roads and be careful throughout the day. It’s frightening to realize that road traffic injuries can occur at any time regardless of the individuals behind the wheel; you do not have to be an intoxicated reckless driver to cause an accident any fender bender can change a family permanently, and this is specifically the reason that children need to be shielded from harm they cannot easily be replaced.

My uncle was with me after a small traffic accident. Right after the incident, he evaluated my state and saw that I had minor injuries. Without delay, he escorted me to a neighboring drugstore where he provided immediate medical assistance. The chemist assisted in cleansing my wounds and administering antiseptic to decrease the risk of infection. Adhesive dressings were applied to the abrasions on my knees and hands in order to shield them throughout the healing process.

Due to not having any significant injuries, I did not need comprehensive medical treatment beyond this point. Due to the prompt and effective first help, my small injuries healed rapidly and without any consequences. This incident highlights the need for prompt medical attention and the presence of a well-informed someone with expertise in first aid after an accident. Furthermore, it emphasizes the need for easily accessible medical resources and aid in public areas to rapidly and efficiently manage accidents.

Road accidents are very fatal causing a high number of deaths and cottages, not fatalities all over the World every year. Most of the injuries lead to permanent disabilities rendering the affected persons incapacitated and unable to work efficiently. Thus, road crash has significant economic costs as it leads to fatalities and massive losses in affected countries. The areas of concern arising from the causes of such accidents include; Speed, drinking and driving, distracted vehicle control, and no precaution as per safety measures like seat belts and helmets. These approaches range from compliance with existing laws on traffic management, enhanced road and car designs, information sharing and dissemination to the public, and fast response to scenes of disaster. It, therefore, becomes pivotal to understand and intervene with these factors to decrease the number and severity of road accidents consequently preventing loss of lives and astronomical losses.

In conclusion, Road traffic injuries are the biggest problem in the world which kill a large number of people each year, lead to long-term disabilities, and have high economic impacts. These consequences if prevented through proper law enforcement measures, better safety measures and precautions, public awareness campaigns, and efficient management of emergencies can reduce these impacts drastically which will save many lives and also prevent loss of property.
