WHAT ARE EYES?

Hello everyone! Let me share with you some important facts. Eyes are two ball-like part of the body on our face. They are very important organs that enables us to see and interpret visual information in our surrounding. We are only able to see with the eyes when our eyes are healthy.

There are people that have eyes but cannot see and such people are described as "the blind". There are also people that are naturally born blind. For you and I to be able to see is a blessing and we should be grateful for such gift of sight.

I can remember in our biology class in my secondary school we were taught "eyes" as one of the organs of the body and I learned that the eyes has different layers which includes the iris, cornea, lens, the macula, the optic nerve, pupil and the retina. All these layers have their own functions to play in protection of the eyes.

The eyes enable us to distinguish between different colors. Did you know that when you blink your eyesit keeps your eyes clean and moist? Yes blinking has a function to play in eyes protection.

SOME EYE CARE ROUTINES

In order to avoid eye problem and maintain good vision we need to take very good care of our eyes and below are some ways we can take care of our eyes:

  1. What we eat plays a vital role in promoting our eye health. We must eat food that are rich in Omega-3 acids to promote eye health.

  2. We should make sunglasses our companion especially on sunny days, it is important to wear sunglasses to protect our eyes from sun rays that might harm our eyes.

  3. Don't wait until you have an eye problem before you go for a check up. Once in a while, visit your doctor to examine your eyes.

  4. Like I mentioned earlier, blinking helps to keep our eyes moist and clean so make effort to blink regularly especially when reading or staring at a screen.

  5. Avoid rubbing your eyes because it can cause small blood vessels to break which will lead to redness, swelling or other eye problems.

  6. I have recently learned that it is important to give yourself a break from your screen and focus on something else in every 20 minutes interval.

In Conclusion, try and eat nutritious meals, veggies and citrus fruits. I hope I have shared some important eye care routines that you can easily follow. Special thanks to @khursheedanwar.
