A paradoxical conclusion related to overeating was also made by Professor Brian Wansink from Cornell University in the USA. He is the author of the book "The Crazy Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think", in which he answers the questions related to overeating.
Constant Hunger
According to the professor, people often overeat, not because the food is particularly tasty or because they are particularly hungry. In his book, he described his numerous experiments that the scientist conducted in order to be able to answer the question of what amounts of food a person eats and why he actually does it.
The author believes that the reason for being always hungry lies in the surrounding environment - friends, family, product packaging, table sizes, dishes, etc. Wansink believes that these are all things that people don't pay attention to, but they greatly affect nutrition.
The professor gives a particularly revealing and interesting example related to ice cream - Wansink believes that 100 grams of ice cream can be a lot or a little. According to him, if we give the glutton 100 g of the cold, delicious dessert in a small cup, this amount will seem completely normal and sufficient.
However, if we put the same amount of ice cream in a large glass - he will probably think that the dessert is too small. The research on which the book is based was conducted with the help of 63 experts. And the main conclusion reached in it is that the reason for overeating is not at all in the delicious food, nor do we do it from the feeling of hunger, but rather the reason is psychological.
Experts say that the attraction to foods well sprinkled with table salt occurs when the metabolism is accelerated, with increased work of the thyroid gland or with increased physical activity. Pregnancy is also a prerequisite for such a desire. The body is trying to gather enough strength and stock up on energy. It is not scary that one day the body's need for more salty food will be met, as long as it is compensated with an increased amount of fluids, especially more water. This is necessary because more salt means fluid retention in the body, and this increases blood pressure.
