Carvicogenic headache is a headache that develops from the neck, often resulting from conditions or injuries affecting the cervical spine, such as arthritis or a herniated disc. This type of headache is usually called a secondary headache or referred pain because the part of the body that is the source of the pain is different from the part where you feel the pain.

Symptoms of cervicogenic headache

Below are the symptoms of cervicogenic headache:
• One-sided headache that may start from the back of the head and radiate to the front.

• Limited movement and stiffness of the neck.

• Pain in the neck, shoulder, or part of your arms.

• You can also feel pain around your neck and also pains while coughing or sneezing.

• Terrible headache while trying to keep your neck in a particular position.

Causes of cervicogenic headache

Cervicogenic headaches can be caused by poor posture during your daily activities such as driving, desk work, carpentry work, or even hairstyling work. You may unintentionally push your chin forward, leading to cervical extension, and staying in that position for a long period can stress the neck and base of the skull which in turn causes cervicogenic headache. Sleeping in an uncomfortable position, like sleeping in a chair or sitting up in a bed, can also cause this type of headache. In addition, compressed or pinched nerves in or around the neck can also contribute to this headache.

Share your personal experience of how often you feel tension headaches in a month

Due to the nature of my job as a hairstylist, I usually suffer from tension headaches because of my work conditions which involve holding hair in an uncomfortable position, repetitive movement of my hands, and also the stress from attending to numerous clients. These factors contribute to muscle tension in the neck and scalp, which, of course, is a common cause of tension headaches. The frequency of this headache depends on individual factors such as sitting or standing habits, the level of stress, and more especially, the overall health condition of the person.

What I normally do to ease my pain in this situation is to try and maintain good posture while working. After some time, I dehydrate and take a short break to stretch and relax my neck and muscles and also relax my nerves by taking a deep breath. This is my remedy for tension headaches.

I am inviting @akareen, @bela90, and @blessedlife to participate in this contest.
