It is essential for our survival, sustaining us and keeping us healthy. Without it, our existence is over. It runs through our bodies, carrying needed nutrients to every cell. In a simple definition, blood is bodily fluid made up of cells, water and proteins. But it is of more than that - it is a compound system of elements that work together to perform many important functions in the body. It is the carrier of oxygen and nutrients to our cells, help in the regulation of our temperature and plays a very vital role in our immune system.....

It is found in all living creatures and one of the most precious substance in humans, as it is holds our life force. It is an extraordinary substance and so every drop is precious. The lack of it is dangerous, so we are entitled to protect it. ....

Don't you think this question doesn't need an answer? What we all know as the essence of our survival is important, so our need for it is massive. To be formal, here are the reasons why we need blood...

  • We need blood to fight against disease and infection.
  • We need blood to regulate the body temperature.
  • We need blood to transport oxygen and nutrients to every cells in the body.
  • We also need blood to carry away waste and carbon dioxide from the cells

In other words, we can't live without blood......

Mention the different functions of the blood

  • Transportation of Oxygen and nutrients: The red blood cells transport oxygen from the lungs to the tissues and organs of the body. While plasma carries nutrients like amino acids and glucose..
  • Removal of waste: The blood (red blood cells) transport carbon dioxide from the tissues to lungs, where they can been removed from the body. The plasma transports waste products like urea to the kidneys for removal.
  • Regulation of the body temperature: Some part of the body is cold, so the blood helps to transport heat from warm to cooler areas.
  • Fight against disease: The blood is made up of the red, white blood cells, plasma and platelets. The red blood cells does most of the works. It helps to keep the immune system against infection and diseases...

What kind of food should we eat to get a healthy blood

To keep your blood healthy, I have found out through some research that one needs to eat diets that contains plenty of iron, vitamin B12, folic acid, and proteins. These nutrients have their importance in maintaining your overall blood health.

Therefore, foods that are rich in iron, folic acid, protein and vitamin B12 are;

  • Eggs
  • Whole grains
  • Legumes like beans
  • Liver and other organ meats
  • Leafy green vegetables like spinach
  • Lean meats like chicken and fish. Etc..

In addition to these foods, there are other ways apart from diet which includes; regular exercises, abstinence from smoking and constant hydration.

In conclusion, blood is a delicate part of our bodies, having a wide a range of functions that keep us alive and healthy. By eating a nutritious diet, and having all other activities combined we can get to keep our blood healthy and ensure that it is able to perform it tasks. Doing so, we can all be healthy and have our blood flowing strong and healthy...
