Greetings friends of Steemit and Healthy Steem
What is stress eating? |

Anxiety can also affect your sense of taste.
Even though it seems like taste is in our tongue, the nerves that control your taste receptors originate in our brain as cranial nerves. So really taste is in our brain.
Researchers have shown that anxiety and stress lower our perception of saltiness or sweetness. We may not notice this decrease on our own but the decrease can make us eat more sugary and or salty food to compensate for the dull perception.
Have you noticed that if you go a while without eating sugary food, then you eat something sweet, it tastes or it seems like it's just super sweet.
Then if you eat out or at someone else's house
and the meal even has a normal amount of salt, it can taste too salty for you.
This is all to say that taste bud changes can happen without you being aware of it, and if your sensitivity decreases, you can over consume salty or sweet food when you get stressed or anxious because your taste buds are desensitized.
This isn't a permanent alteration and usually goes away as your stress or anxiety resolves.
But stress and anxiety can persist or come and go indefinitely. So if you are frequently stressed out, the decreased sweet or salt perception can hang around contributing to stress eating.
Negative effects of stress eating? |

The taste changes and dry mouth are thought to be related to increase in norepinephrine and cortisol, which are part of your body's stress and anxiety response.
High norepinephrine levels decrease your taste perception to the sweet and salty, and high cortisol levels contribute to gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gums, and this can cause the metallic or bitter taste.
