Q1:Write a detailed first aid response for the following scenario:You witness a child accidentally spilling hot tea on their arm. What immediate steps will you take? What actions will you avoid? Include considerations for burn severity and explain your reasoning.

If someone needs a first aid to stay calm. Check if they are breathing and is safe. If there bleeding or press on the wound with a clean cloth to stop it. For a burns of cool the area with a water. Call for help or an ambulance if needed. Always comfort the person until the help arrives.

Immediate Steps:

  1. Stay Calm
First to stay calm and avoid scaring the child. Reassure them that they will be okay.

  2. Remove the Tea
Quickly but a gently remove any wet clothing from a burned area. This prevents the hot liquid from to staying on the skin.

  3. Cool the Burn
Place the burned area under the cool running water for 10 to 20 minutes. This helps to reduce the pain and prevents the burn from a getting worse.

  4. Cover the Burn
Use a clean and non stick bandage or the cloth to loosely cover the area. This keeps the burn safe from a germs.

  5. Seek Medical Help
If the burn is large or blistering and deep to take the child to the doctor too immediately.

Actions to Avoid:

  1. Do not Use Ice
Ice can damage the skin further and to make the burn worse.

  2. Do not Apply Creams
Creams or the oils can trap heat and to delay healing.

  3. Do not Pop Blisters
Blisters to protect the skin and they should not be broken.

Reasoning

These steps are designed to minimize the pain or prevent infection and ensure proper to healing. Staying calm and an acting quickly can make a big difference in a helping the child recover.

Q2: "A worker in a warehouse suffers an electrical burn after touching exposed live wires. The burn site shows entrance and exit points, with damage to the skin and underlying tissues. What are the immediate first aid actions you should take, and what critical steps should you avoid? How does this differ from treating thermal burns?"

Immediate First Aid Actions:

  1. Turn Off the Power
Immediately to turn off the power for supply to the exposed a wires to prevent for further injury. If you can not turn it off use something non metallic like a wooden stick to move the person away from a wires.

  2. Call for Help
Call emergency services more immediately. Electrical burns can be serious and a professional medical care is needed.

  3. Check Breathing and Pulse
If the worker is not breathing, start the CPR if trained. Keep checking their breathing and a pulse until help is arrives.

Critical Steps to Avoid:

  1. Do not Touch the Person
Avoid to touching the injured person if they are still in a contact with the live wires. This can also harm you.

  2. Do not Apply Water
Water can conduct an electricity and may worsen the injury.

Difference from Thermal Burns:

Electrical burns is differ from a thermal burns because they can cause a deeper tissue damage due to the electricity passing through the body. Thermal burns or caused by heat and mainly affect the skin surface. Electrical burns need a special care for the internal damage which thermal burns do not.

Q3: "A worker in a factory accidentally spills a strong acid on their arm, causing immediate pain, redness, and blistering. A colleague tries to wash it off with water but notices the burn spreading."
  1. Remove the Acid
Quickly remove any clothing that has an acid on it. If possible use a gloves or something safe to prevent the contact with the acid.

  2. Rinse the Affected Area
Rinse the acid off with the plenty of water. Use cool water to wash the area for at least 10 to 20 minutes. This helps to remove the acid and that reduces the damage.

  3. Do not Rub the Area
Avoid for rubbing the skin as this can be spread the acid and cause more harm.

4. Medical Help

After rinsing or call for the medical help. The acid might be cause a serious damage to the skin and deeper tissues so the worker needs a professional care.

Steps to Avoid

  1. Do not Use Neutralizing Agents
Avoid using anything like a baking soda or vinegar. These can make the burn worse or that cause a chemical reaction.

  2. Do not Apply Creams
Do not apply any creams or ointments unless in directed by a medical professional as they can trap the acid and to make things worse.

Conclusion

Acid burns need an immediate rinsing with water to stop the damage while other treatments should be only done by a professionals.

Q4: You are a first responder in a rural area. Two people are injured in a house fire: Person A has a large area of third-degree burns but is conscious and calm. Person B has second-degree burns on both legs and is in severe pain. You can only help one person immediately due to resource constraints. Whom do you prioritize, and why? Support your decision with medical and ethical reasoning.

Prioritizing Person A:

In this situation I would be prioritize the Person B with a second degree burns because they are in a severe pain which can be lead to shock. Shock is life threatening and that needs immediate treatment. Severe pain can also cause a breathing problems and affect the heart so quick the care is essential.

Medical Reasoning

Person B burns on a both legs could become more serious if the left untreated and leading to infection or complications. Although the second degree burns are painful they are usually less life threatening than the third degree burns. The priority is to stabilize the Person B by managing pain and to preventing shock.

Ethical Reasoning

While Person A has a third degree burns which are the severe or they are conscious and calm. This suggests they are in less immediate danger of a dying compared to the Person B who is in the intense pain and at risk of a going into shock.

By treating the Person B first the goal is to stabilize them and to prevent life threatening complications. Once Person B is stable I would then focus on a treating Person A serious burns.

Student Name: @isha-rehman
Overall grade: 5.8
Plagiarism Check: Pass
AI Use: no

QuestionWhat the Student Did WellAreas for ImprovementGrading
Question 1Provided the course of action in this specific situation .The answer is too concise. Even though you mentioned wrapping a lose bandage, there's no mention of cleaning the site. Important details are missing such as the student didn't mention prioritizing their own safety first. This is a very important step. There's no mention of gloves or a wrapper.[Grade: 1.2]
Question 2the student listed down the course of action for an electrical burn. There's no mention of wearing PPEs or gloves or prioritizing one's own safety. There are a few grammatical mistakes.[Grade: 1.6]
Question 3Listed the steps of managing an emergency chemical burning scenario. The problem in the first aid was not flushing the burn site for a longer period of time. Atleast 20 minutes of flushing is recommended for a chemical burn. There's no mention of this point. No mention of PPEs[Grade: 1]
Question 4The student managed to present their logic in choosing the answer. The ethics as well as the Triage dictate that the patient with a 2nd degree burn should be treated first as the patient with a third degree burn has his nerves damaged so currently he is not in severe pain whereas the patient with a 2nd degree burn might be going through excruciating pain and if not attended immediately would be left with grave consequences[Grade: 2]
Question 5the student failed to present an infographic. Infographics in the medicine field serve as important tool for having access to more information in a single place. These are typically necessary to have as a first aider.[Grade: 0]

General Feedback: The student has shown an average understanding of this week's course. There were a few shortcomings which I'm sure will be avoided in the upcoming posts.
Thank you.
