TUBERCULOSIS

A contagious infectious disease which mainly affects

  • lungs
  • Spine
  • heart
  • Brain
  • kidneys

CAUSE

  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

TRANSMISSION

It is transmitted by the air when that person who is affected by the TB coughs, speak or sneeze, the small droplets from his or her release and affects the other person. When the nearby persons inspire and these germs enter his or her body and ultimately they affect with the Tuberculosis.

SYMPTOMS

  • Persistent cough
  • Chest pain
  • Coughing with blood
  • Coughing with sputum
  • Fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Night sweats

DIAGNOSIS

  • Medical history assessment
  • Physical examination
  • Specific Tests including
  • Tuberculosis skin test
  • Interferon gamma release assay
  • Chest X ray
  • Sputum test

PREVALENCE

The term prevalence is the total number of the cases of nay disease in a population at a time. According to WHO in the year of 2022 the cases of about 10 millions of the tuberculosis were reported and the prevalence of about 10 + million active cases.The rate of tuberculosis were highest in the countries with middle income. The countries including India and Pakistan were reported with the highest rate of tuberculosis cases. The factors increase the prevalence of the disease are

  • poverty
  • Malnutrition
  • Limited access to healthcare services

INCIDENCE

The incidence refers to the number of different new cases of any disease in a common community at a given time. It is significant issue of health that it affects the lungs primarily but it can also affect the brain, kidneys and spine. In the year of 2021, the tuberculosis incidence were estimated about 1 plus million deaths due to this disease.

PROGNOSIS

The prognosis varies in the different individuals which is based on the various factors .If this disease is diagnosed early the prognosis is good. The treatment of tuberculosis includes six months of antibiotics.

  • Presence of HIV
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic lungs disease
  • Access to healthcare services
  • Socioeconomic status
  • Living conditions
