What is Hepatitis B, and how does it affect the liver?

Hepatitis B is the viral infection that attacks the liver which causing the inflammation. It is transmitted through contacts with the infected blood semen or the other body fluids. The virus can easily cause acute symptoms like the fatigue, jaundice, abdominal pain, and nausea etc. Over time if it lefts untreated it can leads to the chronic liver damages cirrhosis or the liver cancer. Hepatitis B affects the liver by causing inflammations and the scarring and impairing its ability to the process nutrients to produce the proteins and to detoxifying the body. Vaccinations is available to prevents the infections and antiviral medications can manage the chronic cases.

Acute hepatitis B symptoms

Acute Hepatitis B symptoms may appear suddenly and include

• Fatigue
• Loss of appetite
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Abdominal pain (especially in the upper right side)
• Dark urine
• Pale stools
• Joint pain
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). Some people may not show symptoms and may recover fully with proper care.

Chronic hepatitis B symptoms

Chronic Hepatitis B may be have no symptoms for many years but it can be leads to the long term liver's damaged. Symptoms, if present, include:
fatigue,

• Abdominal discomfort
• Swollen abdomen
• Easy bruising
• Jaundice
• Over time the chronic infections can cause the cirrhosis or the liver cancer. Regular monitoring is too much essential.

What are the common ways in which hepatitis B is transmitted?

Hepatitis B is the primarily transmitted through the contact with infected body's fluids. The most common transmissions routes are includes:

• Blood to Blood contact
• Sexual contact
• From mother to children
• Shared personal items
• Healthcare settings

How can hepatitis B be prevented?

Hepatitis B can be prevented by the practicing good hygienes, such as the frequent hands washing with the soap, especially after using the toilet and before the eating. Drinking clean and safe water and avoiding the unclean or the undercooked food also helps to prevents the infections. There is the currently a vaccine for hepatitis B in the some countries.
