I have heard about this proverb since my childhood. Due to high fibrous content and a sweet but little tart taste, it makes it a very good munching material between the meals. I love to use it in many pudding and fruit recipes. Its preserved form in jam and a similar dish called muraba locally is the best part of the breakfasts.

Logically, the proverb is not always meant for its purpose. Although apples have a lot of beneficial aliments in them, it isn't a full package of all the essential body needs. The reason behind it is that apples are not really rich in vitamins and minerals, although they contain a great deal of antioxidants and fibers. In order to maintain a proper healthy diet, we must need some other ingredients besides apples.

I think we should not limit ourselves to specific types of veggies, fruits or any other eatables. Instead, we should opt for seasonal and organic nutritional food.
Among healthy habits, we need to maintain a proper balance between our diet and exercise. For me, 20 minutes yoga is the best ever practice to relax and maintain body health.

Apples can provide protection against many lethal ailments like heart stroke, cancer and diabetes. It has proved to be beneficial for weight management. Apples are also helpful for the brain cells working.

If I have to create a proverb, it is as below.
Eat a bowl of mix fruit a day, keep the doctor away.
The main reason is that only a single fruit can't provide all the essential nutrients, but a mixed fruit platter can do.
