1. Complete Blood Count (CBC)

CBC is the most frequently used laboratory test of all the different types. There is no special preparation which is needed for this test. A doctor can request this test when the patient has symptoms such as, fever, fatigue, any cancer symptoms and many more.

  • Purpose:

In this test, the assessment of global health is estimated by analyzing blood quality and quantity of various aspects, e.g., RBCs, WBCs, hematocrit, platelets, and many others in blood. It also counts the concentration of the hemoglobin, the protein that transports oxygen.

  • Significance:

It is useful for the evaluating of the diseases such as anemia, infections, inflammation, and blood disorders.

A high WBC count may indicate infection.

On the other side, low level of RBC/hemoglobin indicates anemia.

2. Lipid Profile

It is a diagnostic test which helps the physician to detect the risk involved of both patient for heart disease and cardiovascular diseases.

  • Purpose:

A lipid profile examines the concentration of total cholesterol, LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein), HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) and triglycerides in blood.

  • Significance:

It measures cardiovascular health and, as a result, allows the identification of risks for cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

High levels of LDL(Low-Density Lipoprotein)cholesterol or triglycerides are associated with increased risk.

On the contrary, high HDL(High-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol is protective.

3. Liver Function Tests (LFTs)

This is a group of test where the level of substances produced by liver are measured.

  • Purpose:

This suite of tests investigates the level of enzymes, proteins, and other agents such as ALT, AST, bilirubin, and albumin to explore conditions of the liver.

  • Significance:

It indicates the state of one's liver injury, viral infections commonly referred to as hepatitis, and disorders such as fatty liver and cirrhosis.

  • Increased levels of ALT and AST mostly indicate liver injury or stress of the respective patient.

4. Thyroid Function Tests (TFTs)

Thyroid Function Tests are ordered by the doctors for diagnosing and monitoring thyroid conditions, such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, and also for monitoring the effectiveness of thyroid treatments.

  • Purpose:

These tests are used to count the levels of thyroid hormones TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone), T3 (Triiodothyronine), and T4 (Thyroxine) which can help evaluate hypothyroidism or hyperthyroid state of thyroid gland.

  • Significance:

They help doctors diagnose hypothyroidism, which is an underactive thyroid, or hyperthyroidism, which means that it is overactive.

Abnormal levels can make metabolism and energy weaken-wholeness of health.

5. Blood Glucose Test

In this test, diabetes and other diseases in which blood glucose levels are a variable for measuring are clinically useful to detect disease states. Insufficent regulation of blood glucose can be a symptomatic marker of serious disease states in the patient. Glucose is a sugar type, which can supply energy to the cells of all the human body.

  • Purpose:

In this test, blood glucose is measured to see if there is an episode of diabetes or at risk for developing diabetes. It comprises of fasting glycose (FBS), andom glycose (RBS), and HbA1c test.

  • Significance:

High blood glucose levels are always present in diabetes, while the level of HbA1c reflects the average amount of blood sugar over a period of the last 2–3 months. Early detection is very critical to effective management.

Such test studies, though small, are of great value in identifying important clues which are matters of great concern. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment are needed. Checking should be done routinely, as well as for one's general well-being.
