What do you know about AIDS causes? |
---|
AIDS is an acronym that stands for Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. It is the last stage and full blown HIV. At that point, the virus has damaged and weakend the body making it vulnerable to other disease. It does so by destroying the body's anti bodies which helps it to fight infection. There is no cure for AIDS and it can't be managed the way HIV can be.
Causes of AIDS |
---|
- Unprotected sex
It can be contracted during unprotecting sex with an infected partner.
- Mother to Child
Mothers can equally pass it to her children during childbirth or breast milk.
- Sharp object
Sharing sharp objects use by an infected person.
- Unsafe medical procedures
It can be contracted during blood transfusion.
What do you know about AIDS treatment? |

They is no cure and treatment for AIDS which is the last stage of HIV, at this point the disease has damaged all the organs in the body and makes the victim immunocompromised. But there is a preventive drug called ART (Anti Retroviral Drug) which is the combination of two drugs from different classes use in managing HIV. It helps to make the immune system of the victim strong and able to withstand attack. It also helps to stop the replication of the virus in the body. It is recommended for people living with HIV because it helps them to live long.
What do you know about AIDS preventive measures? |

- Protective sex
Do not have unprotected sex, always use Condoms for sexual intercourse.
- Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
In the case of exposure to HIV/AIDS, the victim should take PEP under 72 hours of exposure.
- Education and awareness
The public especially the illiterates should be educated about the virus, it's dangers, how they can contract it and it's preventive measures.
- Avoid sharing items
Avoid sharing items like razors blade, hair clipper, needles, syringe and nail cutter with people.
- Cesarean section
Infected pregnant women should give birth through CS inorder to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus to the child.
- No Breastfeeding
An infected mother should not breastfeed the child
Finally, even with education, the number of people living with the virus keeps on going up. We should always get ourselves tested to make sure we're free, we should also be extremely careful.
