My Ideal Weight
The phrase "ideal weight" means different things to different people. It is often determined by a range of factors such as age, gender, cultural preference, body frame or health status.
For me, my ideal weight is simply any healthy body weight that makes me feel confident and happy. That would definitely fall between 125 lbs - 140 lbs. I jokingly tell people that I prefer having a body that allows me to run in case a war breaks out or a body my fiance can easily lift after we are exchange our vows.
Even though I eat healthy, I have struggled to maintain a weight of 125 lbs - 140 lbs throughout my life. It fluctuates like the epileptic light condition in some part of my town. Today I am at 125 lbs, tomorrow the scale shows something less.
I learned that these fluctuations were caused by stress, health challenges and inconsistent eating habits during my undergraduate years.
During low weight days, the doctors are careful to prescribe medications that match my current body weight.
However, I discovered that the secret to achieving my weight goal was through improving my lifestyle rather than searching for quick fixes.
In April 2024, I began paying attention to what I eat, when I eat and ensured to avoid any distractions that come each time I try to savour each bite.
For starters, I noticed remarkable improvement when I took less junk foods and more whole foods, and fruits.
Next, I prioritised my sleeping time. It is common for young adults to get preoccupied with developing themselves and sourcing for money that they forget to R E S T. This in turn disrupts the hormones that regulate our appetite and metabolism.
I would tell you that a 30 mins nap daily can help you in your weight gain journey.
About metabolic disorders and pathologies,
I am unaware whether I have any metabolic issue. In fact, through research, I discovered a person's genetics and lifestyle can affect their metabolism.
I intend to read more on this to gain better insight into how to maintain a healthy weight.
Currently, I am rejuvenating from a bout of illness. It means I have to rework on reaching my ideal weight again. I really want to see a sign of relief on the doctor's faces when next I visit the hospital.
Do I keep track of my progress? Absolutely!
It also demands that I try to be patient with myself. This can be challenging, especially when people enquire about your health and why you are experiencing weight loss.
Nonetheless, I choose to be happy and healthy.
